weird, intermittent Firestore problem

We just finished a large shoot (probably 400 minutes of DVC Pro HD footage) using a (rented) Firestore.

For the most part, we had no problem, but 3 or 4 times we observed an odd problem... the Firestore completely froze up. We couldn't power it down, stop, start, or get any action whatsoever from any of the buttons or from the HVX when it was connected.

I finally took the battery out of the Firestore and reinserted it, and the Firestore came back to life and functioned normally.

At first we couldn't make any association as to what we were doing when it froze, but then we realized that each time, it had been when we had been shooting a single clip of unusually long length (exceeding 3-4 minutes in one shot.)

The shooting schedule was hectic so we didn't have a lot of time to experiment, but we did upgrade the firmware from 2.0.1 to 2.0.3 (at the suggestion of the rental place) and, at the same time, we also stopped shooting long, uninterrupted clips... so I don't really know if the firmware upgrade acutally solved the problem or not.

Has anyone else run into this problem? Does it indicate a problem with this Firestore, or is it more likely a software issue corrected by the firmware upgrade?

We are considering buying a Firestore, so I'd just like to know what others have experienced.

No I havent had any problems with the firestore. I use it on a lot of commercial and industry work. I suggest that you keep it upgraded when your purchase it.
I looks that to me that the upgrade took care of the bug that you had. Didn't it feel great not to use tape. I don't miss labeling and digitizing one bit.
