Weird interlacing artifact with AVID using DVCPRO-HD

Using AVID Xpress Pro HD 5.2.1

I'm not sure why I'm seeing what appears to be interlacing when previewing or rendering my DVCPRO-HD files? It happens with 1080 and 720 files.

I'm importing the raw MXF files. I know it's not in the original since I've seen other rendered examples of the footage here that do not display this issue.

Here's a frame grab. It's a jpeg, but it shows the same issue even if saved as a tiff file.

What am I doing wrong?

Hi

I've been having the same problem with my 25p footage.

I am also working with Xpress Pro HD 5.2.1, all the footage was shot and digitized in progressive but Avid still display (and export) this problem. It almost seems as if the video was interpreted as interlaced missing a field...

Any ideas?

Same here?

I'm not sure why someone has not jumped in and questioned this?

Everything points that it should work, but I feel like there's a hidden parameter I missed?

I am fairly new to AVID and have never had this issue with progressive footage exported from a Sony Vegas timeline.

Thanks Michael,
you would think others would of complained about it?

I've tried exporting in just about every codec AVID has, but they all show the same issue?

It's not the export codec that is the issue, it is the export from the DV format from Avid before it hits and external codec. The only workaround is to transcode first to a non DV codec such as DNxHD for HD. And others have complained about it, it is in the pipeline for getting fixed.

Michael,

Thanks a lot man!

I just ran the transcode function for DNxHD, it instantly created a transcoded file of the original in the bin. I than exported to a wmv file.
It looks great.

Could you confirm whether this bug is specific to dvcPro Hd codec, or to any dv format?

(you just got me worried there...)

It's for any DV based codec; DV25, DV50, DV100. But as I mentioned in another thread, I no longer see this issue with 5.2.2 of Xpress Pro and 2.2.2 of MC Adrenaline.
