GH3 Weird EVF/monitor auto exposure issue

Hi everyone,

I am trying to help an elderly friend of mine who just purchased a used GH3 off ebay. I've inspected the camera, and it seems to be fully functional, except for one bizarre thing. I've turned off auto anything, and set everything to full manual. However, when I change ISO or F-stop or shutter speed, the EVF or monitor do not show any change. When I snap a picture, the playback shows that the change was indeed made.

It seems the compensating exposure thing is set to always counter balance any adjustment made to fstop/ISO. I've looked through all the menus and turned everything off regarding compensating exposure anything, but it is still automatically adjusting to counter balance any fstop or ISO change. I've never seen a DSLR camera do this before. I don't understand how Panny would think this is a useful feature (exposure compensation applied to monitoring, but not to the recorded image).

I hope that made sense. This camera is making me feel lame.

Thanks in advance.

Oddly, I'm given an option for exposure in the movie mode that will disable this. Can't find what is causing this in stills mode. M mode, with everything set to full manual.

Make a change to fstop, the fstop indicator changes, but the image in the display stays the same. The exposure compensator indicates that has adjusted itself to counter balance the fstop change in order to keep the same exposure. But when I snap the pic, the fstop change is made.

Most bizarre function I've ever come across in a DSLR. Can't make sense of it.

A menu item (can't remember where it is on the GH3) called CONSTANT PREVUE needs to be set to ON. This works only in Manual exposure mode (for stills) set with the dial on top in Manual or with the video exposure mode set to M (for manual) with the dial on top set to the motion picture camera icon.

On the GH4 it is in the Custom Settings menu (wrench with upper case C), "page" 5. Look for it on the GH3, when set to ON the EVF and LCD will both reflect exposure setting changes as long as you are in Manual for stills with M set on the dial or in "motion picture" with the dial on to set to the motion picture icon and EXPOSURE MODE set to M.

What Bruce says.
In the menu look for the Spanner with the C on it, switch Constant Preview ON.
FYI: It will use a little more battery power. Keep a spare or two handy.

THANK YOU So much, you guys! I would have never thought this would be a thing I needed to take into consideration. It behooves me why Panny thinks this is a feature.

Anyways, thank you!!!!
