weird audio problem?

This is really strange.....on input 2 I'm getting a nice signal but there's no audio recording to tape..has anyone ever had this problem? Unfortunately it had to be with a client that I discovered this problem, anyhow if anyone knows anything let me know.
oh by the way...mic going into input 2, phantom power on, switch is set to input 2 on channel 2, again my meter is reading a good signal but it's just not recording.

I was recording a speach of all things riding the gain the whole time/watching the signal, then when I played back no sound. YOu know I might have had both channels set to two on accident. I'll check it out and see if that's the problem. Thanks for the reply, I appreciate it.
 
Is the input switch on the left of the lense )from lense end) set to line or mic?
 
I have recorded with both...if it's set to line the signal is just harder to get a good signal, but you can still record using it. It is set on mic. Thanks
