Wedding audio from soundboard Poll

I was just wanting to take a poll and get some feedback as to using onboard camera mic with wireless on groom, compared to those that would prefer hooking camera directly to churches sound board via XLR cable.
Thanks guys

There are a lot of churches, I'd guess that it would be the majority in my area, that don't have anything that qualifies as a "sound board," let alone an output from their audio system that you can use.

Those that do, in my experience anyway, are typically not putting a mic on the groom.

Ideally, you'd have both--the wireless on the groom to pick up him and the bride, and a feed from the church to get the pastor and any other speakers/singers directly from their mics. But, if you're only going to have one, IMO the wireless on the groom is the way to go.

u can put wireless on the groom and put a shotgun on a mic stand close to a speaker to get anything else (paster, scriptures reading ect.) if u dont want to (or dont have the option) plug into the board.

I've never had the luxury of a church being able to give me an audio feed. The services at the vast majority of weddings that I do are not held in "formal" churches, but in chapels that form part of the reception venues - in other words they are part of a "one-stop-shop" wedding service - the bride gets dressed there, and the service and reception are held there as well. They rely on the DJ to set up a very basic mic system for the ceremony, with no provision for a sound desk with a feed for a camera. I thus rely on wireless mic on groom (or sometimes the minister) and shotgun mic.

I get a wireless on the groom for the main camera. I also use a digital recorder patched up to the sound board of the church (this is troublesome because of the audio syncing tasks in post).
second camera gets an on-cam shotgun. in reception, since the audio systems are more professional, I usually talk to the DJ or sound technician to get an audio output from the board and connect it to my cam via XLR cables.
