Website now up.

I'm on safari, works fine for me...

Oddly it still won't load for me. Blue loading line goes by... then sits there. Odd.

Anyway - pet peeve of mine...

Are you really aspiring? Are you directing your hopes and ambitions toward something? Then why would I EVER want to hire you?

Either you are or you aren't. Either you are doing it or you are reading about it and aspiring to be something you are NOT.

Don't sell yourself short.

I teach aspiring musicians... now, if one of those musicians puts out business cards so he can play in churches on sunday -- do you think the pastor will want to see

Aspiring Trumpet Player
Church Services $50 per

Heck no.

Keep young if you want. But if you need to QUALIFY the work you do now, you will always be looking for excuses to qualify the work you do later.

Yes?

SLAP SLAP.... sorry.

Get rid of it.

$500 CDN. The designer has been very helpful and constantly keeps me updated. She has a good portfolio as well. I believe she may do certain sites for less, but I can't be too sure. Would you like her contact info?

-Kegan

Ah. As much as I'd like a website, I think $500 would be better spent to budget my next movie. But sure, send her website if you could.

Yeah, still working out all the bugs in the site. You're right CaptM - I'll have that changed for Robbie once we get the major bugs in the site worked out.

HBlack - it is a little pricey, but I believe its a standard in web design. I had a lot of trouble convincing myself to fork over that cash. My credit card made it a little easier, but still not that easy. I'll PM you her information shortly.

Thanks to all.

How is it working? Anyone having any problems?

Please let Kegan and I know, so we can fix any little bugs. Thanks again.

Eek! 500 dollars seems a little steep.

Me and my parter are putting together our website ourselves, I am responsible for the graphics design, which has been done for ages, but he always too busy to get any the under the hood stuff done on it. (he is an engineering student and UofT) So while my website looks very nice for costing zero dollars, it doesn't really work, and it has no content.

Plus the guy keeps forgetting to give me the FTP password. I am considering switching our billing on the about page to me first. (I lost a coin toss originally)

500 dollars is steep??? I don't think so. Do you expect someone to do a complete flash based websites for 50 bucks? I mean, come on...

$500 is steep these days. Definitely. Especially for that site. Essentially 4 pages plus galleries. Back in the day, that would have been a $3000+ site. Now you can throw that together with a template in a few hours.

$100 an hour isnt crazy for top notch web design, but basic flash?

Here you go:

These are all about $50 each. That plus a couple hours time and you have a site. (Nicer site. Sorry Como.)

Here you go, Como. Cut your losses and go with this one:

Wow. 50 bucks. That's quite a bargain. I need to have myspace type functionality though... and it has to be able to handle thousands of users... and I need to be able to have people subscribe to a newsletter... and it has to do e-commerce. I wonder if that flash page you just put there does all that. If it doesn't, then there's no way I'm going to pay 50 bucks.

Actually, its my site and though I appreciate the links and your time I don't want a template website. If I did, I could have done it myself. A top notch website for $50? I don't think so, not even with all the effort you put in, it'll still look unoriginal.

I don't mind the site, because it does what I need it to. I paid a designer based on her portfolio and her services offered. I don't intend to rip people off, because I expect the same in return for my services. If you can't afford it, find a ways around it, but don't expect a certain service for a low cost.

This is the look that I was going for and I paid for it. If you don't like it, that's fine, but it's what I wanted.

Kegan, that's the point we're trying to make. "Moz" said 500 was steep for a site and we both said, "What do you expect, a website for 50 bucks??"

The point is, you got a great deal for 500 bucks and you made a good choice by hiring a designer to do the site.

Ahhh, sorry about the misunderstanding there Tom. Sometimes its so easy to misinterpret something online. I do apologize if my post seemed a little harsh.

-Kegan

Apology accepted. But Tom is somewhat right. It would be nice if it has myspace type functionality and do e-commerce.

I dunno, I've done web design on the side (mostly graphics, the other person did the PHP/HTML and stopped about a year ago) including flash, and we wouldn't ask more than 250 for that style of website. then again we always undercharged clients.

I've found flash websites in most cases are way to heavy and expensive for what they deliver and too inflexible. I got out of web design mostly because of the whole web 2.0 and everyone wanting java script coming out of the ass. And I do is design the layouts and graphics in photoshop and then dump them into dream weaver. The very best websites are the ones you can still view in a text only browser with zero formating. I mean, try loading your website on an iphone, no flash.. no website.

On the other side of the coin for a media rich website where presentation is paramount flash can do wonderful things. And if there is some incredibly complex action script under the hood of your website then I could imagine why it might cost 500. Action script 3.0 is a lot more complicated then the 1.0 and 2.0 I played with.

Also I am very bias because I have never had to pay anyone to do anything creative for me, I've always done it myself.

I understand where everyone's coming from and maybe shopping around might have been a good idea, but time is money right? No website = no advertising to clients online...translates to bad business.

Thanks for all the reviews and responses guys!
