Every once in a while i post adds on here for "dvxhost"
I dont profit from it, but i like contributing to the film community.
If your tired of crappy youtube re-encodes and streams, stream your files raw for dirt cheap. The smallest plan starts at just under $3/month.

I have around 30 satisfied customers so far.

plan1:

- 250MB of storage (no stream restrictions)

-350MB of storage (250MB of streaming files allowed)

plan3:

-550MB of storage (400MB of streaming files allowed)

-1 MYSQL database (allows you to run a forum or picture gallery/etc!)
-(4) 24/7 FTP accounts
-Free dvxhost subdomain
-10GB transfer/month *atleast (our server samples the bandwidth available to it and calculates wheather or not it can allow your account more than 10GB/month! In other words, you are guranteed ATLEAST 10GB of transfer per month. At times our server has alloted a single user 200GB of transfer!)

-$65/year (needs to be an upfront payment for the whole year)
-25GB of storage (2.5GB of streaming files allowed)

thats not being rude at all, its common knowlege. However, dreamhost over crowds their servers with too many accounts making for occasionally slow download speeds. I put around 25 accounts on each server. Dreamhost puts around 8,000 accounts on each server. Thier servers are at 1gigabit, so divide 1,000 by 8 to convert it and you get a total server output speed of 125MB/SEC then take 125MB/SEC and divide that by 8,000 (the max they put on each server) and you get roughly 157kb/sec per account at any given maxxed out moment. Obviously thier server(s) will not be getting maxxed out every min of the day 24/7, but when it is maxxed out the best you will get per account in total bandwidth is 157kb/sec (which isnt very much when talking video) Infact, thats barely enough to stream to one person at a time let alone two.

Now, on the flip lets take my server (which is hosted at the ISP i work for in san francisco) which is 100MBiT. Take 100, devide it by 8 you get 12.5MB/sec. (the total the server can output at a given time) *note this is MUCH less than dreamhost, HOWEVER, because i limit my servers to 25 users you get more guranteed speed. if you take my 12.5MB/SEC output and divide it amoung 25 users, each user with the server at max load is guranteed 500kb/sec no matter what. :)

Now, that being said, my servers dont get maxxed out, infact they havent yet. Dreamhost is much more popular than me, so i assume they do. I dont know for fact, but can just assume.

So yes, i will not lie, there are better deals that exsist, but just because their appearance is better, doesnt mean their performance is. Feel free to call anyone at dreamhost and ask them to brake down their servers the way i just did and i assure you they wont be able to do it. Or perhaps they will be able to, but are trained not to.
So my friends, buy the hosting you want from who you want. :)

I DO NOT work for dreamhost, but i do host threw them, and i can tell you that they dont have anywhere near 8000 clients per box, and i can proove it!
Since they allow SSH access to the box, i can see all running tasks and processes

The Box is not overloaded, lets check the connection.

Connection looks fine, I downloaded this RED Demo from DVXuser, at almost 7MB/s

And about the download Speed issue, you can upload and download anything from my site, and if it DOESNT max out your connections speed, i will be amazed.

Dreamhost DOES oversell, i will admit that, but so does every other hosting company, look at google with Gmail, if all the users used there 2.7GB of mail space, they would be out of space in seconds. Dreamhost has the same situation, you can use 200GB, and they will Add in more Drives to there setup if needed, and the same with bandwitdh.

I have no idea where you got 8000 Accounts, but im curious.

EDIT: I posted on the Dreamhost Forums out of Curiousity, and here is what i got.
Andre: We’re up over 1200 now according to the database query I just ran.
So, that's about 125 clients per server and 300 domains per server, on average.

your right, that is great speed. Mind if i have a link to your website being hosted there? I wouldent mind doing the tests myself. How are you getting 6mb/sec down? Are you at a university or something?
 
Checkout my Sig, EOCFU Files is hosted there, Go ahead and use one of your boxes on the 100Mbit line, you should recive pretty good speeds :-D
