OTHER: WEB SERIES, The Kohlman Files

I thought I'd go ahead and start a thread here for our new project. We are in the process of finishing up the color correction on the teaser/trailer as well as having our composer finish up the music (now that we have video locked).

It's a horror/dark comedy web series (pilot and first 2 episodes are written) set in the universe of H.P. Lovecraft. It follows the "adventures" of a down on his luck crime reporter for a small newspaper who winds up getting sucked into a dark universe of murder, madness, and ancient malevolent beings.

I financed the teaser myself (about $500) with the intent of crowd funding at least the pilot and potentially additional episodes (This would be the backup plan if we can't find another way to generate revenue to finance the additional episodes).

I have already cast a very good actor I have worked with before as the lead. I have also retained a reasonably well known "B" horror actor for a recurring role.

Here's the poster

A few more production stills. Teaser is waiting for the final mix of the music. Kickstarter should fire off next weekend.

Overcoming my normal aversion to natural light, the time of day and window location were perfect.

Screen grab from the teaser, that's a much maligned (by me) on camera LED inside the mask providing the glow.

This is only 720P with about 200kbps data rate so no pixel peeping allowed! Waiting on a better render from my editor tonight. We are about a week behind schedule on the launch while we waited for the theme music to be completed. Well worth the wait IMO.

Not 100% happy with the pitch video, but it's tough to BS for almost 3 minutes in a single take. Password protected as we have not launched the campaign yet. About a 3 minute pitch is followed by a 1 minute teaser. Comments welcome.

Should be lower case 'kohlman'...

I wasn't able to listen, so I skipped to the moving pictures part... looks good...

Thanks for watching sir. Yes a typo, the password does NOT start with a cap.

You should watch again when you can listen because the Theme music on the teaser is one of the highlights.

We got to about 23% of our goal in the first 24 hours, so not a bad start. Hopefully a couple more good says upcoming. Serious pre-production starts Monday. I have a half day pickup shot of a small scene where the actor Jim O'Rear is booked in April during principal. I'll just have to fund that day out of my pocket.

Quick update, sorry to bump an old thread, but kind of the nature of the beast on Production Diaries.

We did set construction this past weekend. So far so good. this isn't fully dressed by any means, but here you go.

This is Where we started.

Don't worry about thread bumping, sir. Production diaries are meant to be updated and people want to see your progress. Keep goin.

Cool location transformation. How much did it cost?

Thanks Kholi.

That's veneered exterior house siding. $20 a sheet, we stained it a dark mahogany then hit it with dulling spray.. The walls are concrete. We had to drill into them to mount the studs to hold the siding.

The lab table is the bunk beds we made for The Island in 2010 with the legs sawed down. Those bunk beds were in 109 as well. The shelves to frame left are recycled from The Island as well. My partner has a Masters degree in biology so the lab will be set up properly. It's just dumped on the table in those photos. Several more large props coming that aren't in that photo either including a Jacob's Ladder.

We scouted a location for this, but as a series, we are basically figuring out most recurring sets need to be built to assure continuity and our access to them going forward.

A couple of our big donors came through today. Sitting $375 short of the $2500 goal, so we will get there. Gonna take a few days off then start pre-production in earnest.

I'm pretty well aware of the sheer madness of doing a web series on this budget level of probably $4K per episode (I expect I'll have $1500 of mine in this as well before it's all said and done), but I guess we'll find out.

gonzo_entertainment and I have gotten in contact and I am now working as a grip on this pilot, as well as potentially much more; principle photography starts tomorrow and I am pretty stoked. Thanks, Nathan!

This is one of the many reasons why I love this forum. Without DVXuser, things like this couldn't happen.
