Hello DVXUsers. This is a project we've been working on for almost 2 years. We spent 6 month writing the scripts. Rehearsing with the actors and landed on a format that is part scripted and part improv.

Check out the new trailer!

The Ed and Moe Show - INCEPTION STYLE [Trailer]

The story follows Moe; a laid off engineer, who sells all his worldly possessions, moves into his grandmothers garage to start a business with his best friend Ed; a white kid with an identity complex.

My partner and I spent a good 6 months writing out and planning all the episodes and producing every aspect of the project. Spent hours with the actors developing their characters to the point where they could turn into these guys at a drop of a hat.

We are approaching this series like it is shot by amateurs. It's very run and gun and the flaws are part of the filming style. It is purposely shot this way to give it a real feel. To keep it raw. The most important aspect we wanted to focus on was keeping the scenes realistic and more time was focused on the story and the acting.

CHEAT CODES - Moe trys to beat Ed at videogames.

It was really hard to do a project like this, when all you want to do is to focus on the image. But with our resources we decided to suck it up, and go for a more rough approach. In the end I like it better that way because it allowed us to move fast and gave the performances a more organic feel.

Me Merd? - Moe learns that Ed's been calling him a nerd.

We used multiple cameras, since this is shot to look like a run and gun guerrilla style amateur-documentary.

CAMERAS:
HVX-200
HMC-150
2 Sanyo Xacti CG-10's (for interior car scenes.)
FLIP ULTRA HD modified with Wide-Angle Lens (for interior & exterior car shots)

SOUND:
SONY - Wireless Mics
Sennheiser G3 - Wireless Mics
NTG-1 Shotgun

EXTERIOR CAR MOUNTS:
Suction Cups you can buy at Harbor Freight for $6! My friend had some high quality tripod heads, mounted it to them, and we instantly had two suction cup car mounts for $6!

I used this thread to get the idea:

Wow you have actually created a web series that I really look forward to following. The acting is great, not over or under played so it seems very natural, the concept is great and the writing is funny. I really looking forward to watch this and hope you get some recognition for it as it sure as hell is funnier then most the **** on TV today in the US and UK.

Thanks Maxim. That's the approach we are going for. We wanted to go all out and create a web series that is high quality and has many story arcs.

Thank you for the comment. I'll be posting more soon.

How we got all our shots in and out of the car.

Check out these really cool suction cup car rigs we made. The one seen in this picture has a NOGA arm attached to it, to give it more reach and gives us more options in angling a shot.

NOGA ARM:

Other suction cup rigs we've made, have tripod heads on them. The tripod heads we used belonged to a friend. It was a vintage tripod head for still photography. It was metal and very sturdy yet light. Another set up; I have a Gorilla Pod, that came with a nice ball joint plastic tripod head. Just took the head off and screwed it to the suction cups. Awesome!

These are the suction cups from Harbor Freight. http://www.harborfreight.com/dual-cup-suction-lifter-46134.html

My friend Brendan who worked as a grip among other jobs on our show, sawed it in two, drilled holes, and screwed in either tripod heads, or the NOGA arm that is pictured. All I can say is these are very sturdy and I have had many great moving car shots in the show, and it worked really well and I didn't lose one camera in the process. All for under $7 and you get 2 suction cups if you saw them in half.

The camera used is a FLIP ULTRA HD with a modified wide angle lens.

We also used a GH1 with this set up and had no problems.

Below is our trailer, you can see the different car shots we have. All of them have been done with this simple and really cheap rig.
