Web series, 24p or 30p

I'm shooting a web series in a couple of weeks and working on the look. I have been goofing around with the idea of shooting it in 30p. It's a comedy. It's only for web delivery. I'll do some testing but I was wondering if anyone has used 30p for this? I also wonder how they shoot shows like Happy Endings and Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Which framerate do they use? My guess would be 24p. Anyway, I've only shot in 24p and my wind up there but I wonder what others have done.

I've been shooting video for web & DVD distribution in 30p and it works really well. 30p motion is noticeably smoother than 24p and it syncs up well with the standard monitor refresh rate of 60Hz. A little known capability of DVD format is that it is fully compatible with progressive 29.97p videos, even though the original DVD standards were designed for interlaced 59.94i video streams. All modern DVD players output progressive video streams to LCD monitors anyway, so when you switch from 24p to 30p you can forget about interlacing and pulldown complications as well.

Nice. I didn't think about the pulldowns. That's good advice. DVD will be the only other distribution so this all makes good sense. There will be a lot of hand held and movement so the motion being smoother is what got me thinking about it. Sometimes, after more compression on the web, I've found the 24p motion to get "ghosty."

Cool, Erik. I saw your news promos. They look great. I thought you said somewhere that they were 30p. I'm going to test tomorrow. I'm looking forward to it. I'm thinking 30p is going to be good for this. Go AC-less focusing and snap zooms! ;)

I think its more about tastes than anything. I prefer 24p over 30p, and 30p over 60i. I would rather have a cinematic look over a video look.
