Web design question: How can I do this?

When someone on my site clicks on a video, it simply opens a new, full white page and begins playing the QT file.

How can I have it open a page that is sized to the QT file? Or a bit larger then the QT file with a colored background?

Thanks

Yes -- for example, on this site I made it so that each video opens in what appears to be a movie theater: http://www.thesugarcreekgang.com/download.php

It's really just a QT file overlayed on a jpeg background image, and I've specified the size of the window that needs to open with the hyperlink is clicked.

Here's the code for that:

HTML:
<a href="#" onClick="window.open('play_video2.php?video_id=Swamp%20Robber%20and%20The%20Great%20Canoe%20Fish&video_file=scg_series.wmv','newWin', 'width=470,height=470');return false">Windows Media</a> | <font color="#FFFF00"><a href="#" onClick="window.open('play_video.php?video_id=Swamp%20Robber%20and%20The%20Great%20Canoe%20Fish&video_file=scg_series.mov','newWin', 'width=470,height=470');return false">Quicktime</a>

That code references a page called play2.php in which I specify the details of the new page to be opened. That way I can post as many videos as I want and use the exact same play page for each of them.

With a nit of javascript like this-
<a href="javascript:;" onclick="MM_openBrWindow('../Gallery/Lobby.htm','Gallery','width=800,height=550')">
That will create a new browser window at whatever size you want.

<a href="javascript:;" onclick="MM_openBrWindow('../films/torn.mov','Gallery','width=800,height=550')">
Although, you would actually have the movie on a page, and the link would open the page in a fixed window.

Woah...I've been wanting to know this answer for ever. Thanks for asking the question and thanks for the replies. Now I'm going to go see if I can make it go.

Change the width and high values :-P
Just ad 5 PX plus on the Width, and like 20 on the high from whatever Res your exported video is.

I understand but I'm not seeing how I can size down the entire window.

What I see you advising is how to size the permitted area in the page but not how to size the whole page to be similar to a pop up window.

Here's my baisc code:

<html>
<head>
<title>Untitled Document</title>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1">
</head>
<embed src="http://www.itchyhousefilms.com/films/torn.mov" width="340" height="255">
</embed>
<body bgcolor="#FFFFFF" text="#000000">

</body>
</html>

That's your code for the page with the movie in it. You need to use your hyperlink (the one that spawns that page) to specify the size of the page you are telling it to open.

Like in Capt Quirk's code here... where he is specifying that the new window be 800x550. What does the code for your hyperlink look like?

Here's the code:

It's basically set up so that when someone clicks on the .jpg it opens the movie on a full sized page.

<a href="http://www.itchyhousefilms.com/films/bell_protest.mov" target="_blank"><img src="http://www.itchyhousefilms.com/images/bell_logo.jpg" width="464" height="81" border="0"></a></font></b></P>

Correct -- I don't know of any way to do it in only HTML.

Try:

HTML:
<a href="#" onClick="window.open('http://www.dvxuser.com','myTestWin','left=100,top=100,width=464,height=100,resizable=0,location=0,menubar=0,scrollbars=0,status=0,toolbar=0');return false">PLAY</a>
Just replace http://www.dvxuser.com with whatever the web link to your file (mov or html page) actually is.

After I climbed into bed last night, it dawned on me- the important thing, is to name the window that will be opening. Then, your link tells that window what size it needs to be. The problem with not doing websites on a daily basis, is you tend to forget bunches of stuff.
