Wearing out the camera

I eventually would like to get a deck, but until then, I would like to use my $500 Sony MiniDV camera as a deck to import into Avid, instead of my DVX. Am I losing any quality in my footage by importing it with different heads? I had heard you lose some quality if you are not using the same camera you used to film with

Thanks for the help

No.  Once it's recorded to tape, you can play it back on any camcorder.  All it's doing is reading 1s and 0s which are already on the tape.  It's no different than using different types of CD-ROM drives to read the data on a CD.  A Word file pops up the same in any case.  So, too, does DV.

They must do it really, really well. :P
