We shot this in 4 hours total! 6 hour post!

A total of 10 hours to complete this 10min short. Talk about 24hour film contest. Yikes! I wasn't all that thrilled that we had to shoot this in 4 hours. It takes me about 2 hours just to light a damn scene and to shoot this in a total of 4hours was crazy.. So I had to go back to my guerilla style filmmaking. Technically it's not the greatest but for 4hrs to shoot we did the best we could. We couldn't of had done this with some amazing actors. It was pretty much a one-take deal.

Nice job Bluespider! The acting was good, the camera work was good and I loved the titling with the hearbeat behind it. What was all the time in post spent on? The title effect? What did you do it in and how?

Thanks Bigmagic!

I DP for this project. I'm not happy with any of my shots of course due to time constriants. I just had to light it simple and framed it. I wish I was givin more time on it. I wanted more shots in the bedroom scene. But the old couple wanted to go home and plus the old dude was drunk and grouchy. The camera also had a burnt pixel. If you look carefully you can see a dot on the screen.

It took about less than 1hour to capture.
Titles took about an hour.
The rest was spent on editing.

The titles were done in AE. We filmed a wave file playback on sound forge and then later composited in AE for the final effect. Added the heartbeat soundeffect and titles and thats it.

Good server, nice download speeds. Do you know the host? I could figure it out, but I've sworn off my hacker past. ;-) Oh yeah, I LOVE YOU FOR THOSE TITLES. SO SICK OF PEOPLE DOING THE SE7EN THING and all its clones. Gonna watch the rest now...ok dude, all kidding aside. I quit. Where's the med school app? ARE YOU SHITTING ME?!? I hereby promise to never shoot anything unless it is of equal or greater caliber than HEARTBEAT. THAT was incredible in its simplicity, incredible in its genious. Man you and the writer did your thing, very well. I'm about to shoot a pilot. I'm showing the entire cast and crew this flick so they can understand what it's all about. We're doing a comedy BUT this here is some Universal greatness. I'm hoping it'll either inspire or scare the heck out of our cast of first time tv actors. They're all stage folks who've been overacting, I hope this'll teach them subtlety. GREAT JOB HOMIE!!!

That was depressing. Was not expecting that from a Bluespider production. I liked the EKG title sequence but it went on a little long for a short film. Overall not too bad for a quick shoot and quick edit. Good job!

I enjoyed it! Excellet job! probably the only problem that you could fix is the length of time that the close up of the girl in her mom's arms (when she's telling the story). It seemed too quick for the sad, slow pacing of that particular scene...

Keep up the good work bluespider! :)

Ouch dude, thats sad. Nice story, real nice story.

I think that the comps could have been better, but sadly there is only so much you can do with a little bit of time.

The acting was servicable......good for a low budget short, but I thought a much more low key performance from both leads would have been better and serviced the nature of the story better.

I'm gonna go be depressed now. You bum, you took all the happy out of me.

Maybe I'll find it in the garden among the flowers and fresh air.

Smithhouse- thanks man!
TimeKoder13- That's a big compliment, thanks!
DJ- thanks bro!

Pk- yes, it is depressing. Remember I didn't write this. :) Maybe this will help..

Oooooh, screw the garden flowery crap. I got all I need right here in this very thread.

I mean look at that kitchen!!!! its immaculate.

oh yes the girl is good too.

Those photos made my happy place happy. Time for another booty call.

Answer your phone this time, Bluespider! You can't ignore me!

:)

That was great, I didn't see that one coming at all. I thought I had figured it out earlier on. Nicely written and directed.

wha? No love for my piano score? Aw, its okay I did it real quick anyways. :]
Blue- this is back in 2003 bro.

Dude! I got chills and almost cried... and I am tuff to brake. The piano was great and so were the lead actors.

Spider, great lighting!
and the film was very nicely made.
I got chills too. very sad. great performance. But i saw the ending coming.... but i have to say that it's not a bad thing... it was sort of a GASPing moment, a moment of realization for the audience.
as soon as it cut to the old man close up... oooh... good stuff. wonderful editing.

Man are you serious?! First of all most of you guys like the titles which I wasn't very happy with it. Second, I thought my cinematography was below average and the lighting was not that great. Wow, I think you guys are just saying this to be nice. If that's the truth, thanks again people!

Thanks!!

edit: I also forgot to mention that its the first time any of the actors have done a movie. Also it was the director's first time as well.
