We need a bigger P2 store

I believe a bigger P2 store, with 120 or 160 gb, would be enough (with 3 P2 cards) for endless recording on the field. 60 GB is ridiculous.

Can we expect an upgrade soon? (like NAB?)

60gig is not that rediculous... It mean 150minutes of 720pn 24fps recording. P2 Store is not made to be a permanent P2 Card storage.

For people that have 4gig P2 Card, the P2 Store at 60gig is fine. But for 8gig P2 Card, a model of 120gig could be released. Now you could also just go and get 2 P2 Store for your 120gig storage, and double your transfer speed back to your editing stations.

I too think that 60gig is ridiculous, especially when you can pick up HD storage over 200gigs quite cheap these days. I'd rather get a Firestore for my money, but if the P2 Store was bigger I'd have probably gone for that instead. I'm still tempted by the PS Store, but it'd feel like someone had stolen my wallet at 60gig :(

This begs the question, has anyone hacked the unit with a bigger drive? God knows people have done it with things like Tivo and certain MP3 players. If you can do that, call me impressed and I'll order one.

The price of these things is what is rediculous. Now granted the workflow aspect of it would really be nice, and may even be justifiable to a lot of us, but knowing what's actaully in the box I would feel like an AS* buying one. These things should be a $500 box, not $1800. Come on Panasonic. This is basically a 60 gig IPOD in an industrial case with a PCMCIA slot. I don't feel like we should be paying for P2 R&D on these boxes.. :badputer:

I agree, I wouldn't have a problem buying 2 p2stores, but the price should be reasonable. 500 USD? That's already pushing the line, for me... I believe we would be paying p2 R&D with that price! But I would probably get one for 500...

Like I said, someone needs to hack one. I just can't imagine it would be that hard unless there's something in firmware that actually limits the size of the drive.

matter of time....yes panny shoujldnt be selling it for such a high price but they have the market so unless someone makes an alternative tat is comopetitive with regualr Hard drives, were stuck paying the super uber pricing for now.

The battery could be an issue for the P2 store. Perhaps it only lasts enough to transfer 60GB? I bet there will be something newer at NAB though.

Guys.. it was expensive to buy.. but man it's a nice unit. I got it today and thanks to Barry's info about the Mac.. I was able to offload my P2 in like 4 minutes and back it up to the computer in less than that.

The unit should probably be around 900 or so.. because it's really awesome. It's pro all the way. I was also capturing to the unit with a really low battery drive and rather than sending off bad info it just shut off. Now that is what pro units do! They would rather send you nothing.. and not be powered up than send you compromised stuff.

The self powering contigent is really what illiminates so many cheap alternatives. I was at Compusa the other day and they had a stick of gum sized USB OTG offloading smartcard for 179 bucks and it was 16 gigs. If it were battery powered it would be such a damn sweet device. I was also so blown away by the battery powered 8 in one OTG drive that I bought that for my canon rebel. When I shoot stills I usually have a few cards but sometimes I have to offload to a laptop which can be a friggin pain.. Now with this OTG all in one, it fits in a small pouch and is so easy to use and works great for CF.

The P2store will also pay for itself pretty soon. I'm charing 150 per day for the option to offload to the P2 and then I'll backup to either an ipod for the client, harddrive, or DVD-Rs. I like the 4 gig cards for that last option..

I'll give a full report on Friday on the P2store as I'm about to shoot racing footage. Probably 5 or 6 hours a day.. So I'll be offloading to another drive but atleast this way I can shoot for several hours before having to really worry about setting up the laptop and doing that. This way.. I can do that offloading all in one shot.

Barry is right too.. This is for a one man show operation. Laptop is nice for commercials and things at a leisurly pace.. Run and gun racing isn't that at all...

battery will definitely be an expensive, but why do I figure that after $1800 for the unit, that it probably does NOT include a $200- battery they'll ask you to buy next?!? I could be wrong.. but that's my guess.. :(

Ok after a quick investigation, it looks like is does NOT include the battery or AC adapter?!? Those are an extra $160 and $190 each...

Can someone confirm that? I mean come on...
