WB every time change a PP? Plastic skin tone look.

Hi guys, I've been using the FS100 for about a week and was wondering if it's necessary to white balance every Picture Profile change. Also gonna shoot a Chroma Key for a commercial job next Tuesday and will be recording to Mac Pro with BM Deckling HD Pro @ 1080p Prores Lt and some of the tests have shown either a plastic (Like Gigalo Joe from AI) look or a very contrasty image. I used Phillip bloom, G-log, K-tone, CPS-log, the works but haven't been able to get a decent (in my opinion) skin tone. Seems that the WB is off when done to a white card. Also when exposing the subjects if I trust the histogram to spread the levels or try to keep the zebras at, let's say, 70 and expose to the face, it seems overexposed in the mac pro (Decklink). Any hints? I'm trying to look for answers here with all the good folks of this forum but so far haven't had any luck. (The gives great pictures when shot outside though.)
Really appreciate any hints toward the right direction.

I've found the CPS-log to be my favorite. But I have changed the Knee to +100 and Slope -1. I too was getting plasticy looking skin, once I changed to these settings, paid less attention to the Histogram, and actually looked at where my highlights were over-exposing, I got incredible results. Also set your detail between -3 and 0. Then add some sharpness in post, your footage will look awesome!

Thanks! I will try this tonight. You expose with zebras at what level? Does it look like the histogram is way off, like overexposing despite the graph showing it being under 100 IRE? Have you tried strapping color profile? http://strappingproduction.com/sp/industry-talk/accurate-skin-tones-with-sony-fs100 I will give it a go tonight as well!
Thanks so much!

I don't really pay attention to the Zebras or Histogram to be honest, it's a nice feature to have, but on this camera it's not acurate enough for me. I look at the screen for my highlights and adjust exposure to my liking.

you rely on the LCD screen for exposure.... :bath:

Hi, Christiansoares - Thanks for trying my profile! I will say that I have borrowed some elements of Frank and CPM's color depth settings and that has helped even more. I'll send an updated version tonight.

I've gotten used to judging exposure the LCD Display.... Personally for me, I feel like when I pay to much attention to all my gadets telling me whats right and wrong I sacrifice my creativity.

Picture looks awesome with it. Seems to have enough detail were it matters when exposed right. Have you shot any Green Screen work with it? By reducing the Green channel makes it more difficult to pull a good key? Thanks for sharing it!

Great to hear! That is actually something i adapted from CPF's profile... i adjusted the G-M balance in the white balance section... adding a bit more green (-3, i think). I haven't actually done any chrome keying with this profile. I filmed the end of this spot on a green screen with the Abel Cine Varicam profile... http://strappingproduction.com/sp/my_portfolio/filming Wasn't fully happy with the results, but it worked fine.

Great results! If I can get that my client will be happy. Have you recorded internally or to a external recorder?

Thanks! I recorded internally. Some takeaways: I would definitely keep your sharpness above -4 and, if you are going to mimic real-time motion without sound, overcrank to 30 fps. It will still look realistic and the extra 1/12 shutter speed should help you with keying motion.
