FS7: Waveform CINE-EI - Bad news

Spoke to a Sony representative yesterday at an film expo, and asked if a future firmware update was coming to fix waveform problem in Cine-EI mode. Unfortunately, he said that that was probably never going to happen. I'm crossing my fingers that he is wrong, but I feel that it would have been announced in the newest firmware coming out this month if it was actually going to happen since so many users demanded it. Anyway, he said a work around was to set a assignable button to the high key/low key feature and expose properly from both, therefore replacing the waveform. I tried this out, but it doesn't seem to work with manual lenses like the Rokinon lenses, therefore making it useless for me. Are there any other workarounds you guys might know of?

Why would the high low have anything to do with what kind of lenses you use? It simply takes the Slog image and increases the contrast to show you what's useable on the higher and the lower parts of the exposure. Check that out again.

Yeah, that's exactly what I thought, but it just wasn't working without my canon 24-105 on. To be fair, IIdidn't give it much time as I had things to do. I'll try it again today.

The hi/lo button works very well with Rokinon manual lenses and all lenses. Lenses don't have anything to do with the hi/lo button.

I will expose this way using the rec709 lut and setting my zebras and then using hi/lo just to make sure I'm not blowing out or creating too much noise in both ends of the underlying Slog.

If you hook up an HDMI monitor the waveform stays on it when luts are activated so I don't see how they couldn't implement that for the view finder also. The power is obviously there.
