WATERMARKS...

How can I make my own custom watermarks? I know there is the APPLE watermark in iDVD3 but I wanted to make my own. If there is a way to make my own how do I place it over my video for the duration of the project. I think some people refer to it as a "bug" that sits in the bottom right side of the screen like the networks and cable channels have.

Re: WATERMARKS...

Create your logo in photoshop, scale and reposition within safe-title and adjust the transparentcy,,,,render.

Re: WATERMARKS...

I only have what came with FCP4. Do you think I can do it with Livetype? I would have to import my whole project into LT, in order to do it though, I'm guessing.

Re: WATERMARKS...

Just create a generic watermark in LiveType for 10 seconds. Then place that over your entire FCP sequence, over and over. That way you don't have to compress anything to go to or from LiveType, but you will have to do a hefty render.

Re: WATERMARKS...

I looked on LT and I couldn't really find how I can actually make one. Well I think I know how to make one if I am using Text. I am thinking I want to import a logo after I design one then change the opacity so that it is some what transparent and use that as my watermark over the whole piece.

Re: WATERMARKS...

dvcreators.net has a dvd called secrets of final cut pro v.1 which has a tutorial on how to create a watermark. I think I paid something like $20 for it.

Re: WATERMARKS...

Lil Red, thats the only secret I need to know right now. So if you have the secret info can ya let me know :) I havent designed my logo yet but I should be able to import something whether it be text or an icon and then make it transparent enough to where to where you can still see it on the screen. Will that work? Now getting the watermark i.e. logo bug to stay in the same spot the entire duration of my project is my next question. I am going to have my work copyrighted but the watermark just insures the copyright.

Re: WATERMARKS...

*For importing graphic files, you can check the importing graphic files section of your manual
*For changing opacity (level of transparency) of a clip in your sequence, look up opacity in your manual's index.
*For setting the position of a clip, look up position in your manual's index.

Really, none of what you're asking about is a secret.  And typing out a detailed explanation of how to add a watermark would end up sounding much more complicated than simply looking it up in your manual.

Re: WATERMARKS...

Unless you know something that I don't, I have looked in my manual several times and I have not seen anything that stated anything about adding watermarks to your sequences. It could be called something else in the manual that I am overlooking though. But the manual is the first thing I check before I post anything on here.

Re: WATERMARKS...

While there may not be any section in the manual dedicated to "how to add a watermark to your sequence", the necessary tools and information on how to use them is in fact in the manual.  You've just got to use a little ingenuity.  That's why I suggested checkingl your manual for the things I did in my previous post.

A watermark is basically a graphic overlayed on a video track, sometimes with the opacity reduced, and most often in a static postion throughout the duration of the sequence.  That's why I suggested that you learn how to import graphic files, adjust opacity of a clip, and adjust the position of a clip.

By learning up on the process involved in doing this, you will 1) be able to overlay a watermark on your video, but also 2) be able to do more than just this because you'll better understand the abilities of the tools involved as well as a better understanding of the general structure of FCP.
The manual may not show you how to do exactly what you're wanting to do in one fell stroke, but trust me, the answers are there.

Re: WATERMARKS...

Just for you DVX I looked it up. And I'm in crunch for 3 different projects so this was the first 5 min to spare. The background is on track 1. The text from text gen is on track 2 above. Load text(logo) from track 2 into viewer. Filters->video filters->stylize->find edges, drag amount slider to 25. Modify->composite mode->soft light. Change alpha channel. Modify->alpha type->white. I haven't tried this let me know how it works out. They used text generated by fcp for the two letter bug, but you may be able to use your own logo.

Re: WATERMARKS...

Lil Red, thanks it worked and I have my watermark on the screen for the duration of my project! It looks just like the Networks too! I just have to make a custom one whenever I do my Logo for my company. One thing I did notice is that when I clicked the Find Edges in the video filters, I notice a slight tint over the video. When I unclicked it the clip got lighter. This was true for the rest of the project as well. So I left it with the tint look. It wasnt really tinted all that bad but I did notice a difference from before and after.
