WaterFire footage - Daylight to Darkness

All shot on an af100 with a 14-54 Zuiko lens.

This was all run and gun footage. I didn't bring any lights or reflectors, I just used the natural light available.

Thanks Seamus! I figured an event like WaterFire would be a pretty cool way to test out what I could shoot in lowlight situations. I was really impressed with the af100's ability to shoot with just fire as a light source. Sun light on the other hand, I need to work on a little. The first shot was a little over exposed for my liking but it was a good lead in to the rest of the "story."

some nice shots there, but be careful of not over exposing. I think the majority of your daytime shots were over exposed by at least a stop or so. This isn't such a problem of course when it gets dark, but it was really noticable on the skin tones. Good luck. Sparky

Sparky - yeah I knew a lot of my daytime stuff was a little on the hot side when I was looking my footage when I got home. I wish I had my polarizing filter, but the one I have is a 72mm and the 14-54 is a 67mm and no one locally had a step-up ring :( It's just something I know I need to compensate for now. What do you typically set your zebra's at for daylight shooting? I was set on 75 for the skin tones and I'd check it at 90 to see what was close to clipping. The glass blower was kinda a unique situation but I thought my other skin tones looked pretty good. Any suggestions?

edit - I know I was blowing out the highlights in the first shot and in a few other instances (like the glass blower). It was a choice I had to make with the limited gear I had on hand. I think my real question is if I properly exposed the highlights would I still be able to bring the mids up enough in post for the rest of the shot to look properly exposed?

Nice second time out with the camera!

It might have been nice to see more shots of the fires, perhaps CUs? Though that could have been difficult with the 14-54?

Yeah, the fire was a little far away for the lens I have. Maybe I'll do a waterfire redux when I have a good telephoto lens. Or maybe an 85mm prime might work...
