It's interesting that you say that. Because I guessed that Good Night, and Good Luck would win because Edward R. Murrow's actions affected everyone in that in the industry.

When you think about, Murrow (and the film) didn't exactly heap praise on actors and/or the entertainment industry. Think of Murrow's distaste for interviewsing entertainment types. And while Murrow's comments were specifically about television, his retirement speech dismissing the triviality of entertainment TV could easily apply to the motion picture industry.

Don't get me wrong, I agree you had a crowd sympathetic to the "message" of Good Night and Good Luck, but I think it was more nuanced than the academy typically prefers for their ambassadors.

Crash was literally about their neighborhood with a big cast of important and connected people and had a story that allowed them to pat themselves on the back for "understanding" a complex situation.

That's a very interesting take... I'll have to wait to see the other films that were nominated. But I suspect that there's a lot of truth to that.

I need to quit being so negative, though. I thought it was a really great year for movies and that most of the best films got recognition of some sort.

id have to say my favorite part of the whole thing was m night shyamalans american express commercial. That was pretty cool

I hate M Night's films.

(See dustino, there's still room to be negative!)

Well, if there's still room then I hate uber-wealthy hollywood types hawking AMEX! DeNiro, Kate Winslet, now M. Night... have their been others?

(Damnit, TC, I was really trying hard not to be a self-righteous blowhard - I guess I should just accept my fate...)

I didnt watch at all tonight; first time in years...

I played Desert Combat and took care of my son (He has the 'Hiv')

I'm the opposite. This is the first in a few years that I watched. I thought Jon Stewart was so-so... I hate to say it, but that ceremony shines best with an old-school song and dance man like billy crystal. It's an old school event - doesn't translate well with younger comedians.

I'm sure John wouldn't have said it if it weren't on the table for discussion.

I like John I always have. And I did think he made the best of the situation. But I do think he was the outsider and the crowed treated him like one.

H.I.V.

the virus that causes A.I.D.S. ...its become a bit slang...to say you have the hivs (pronounsed as a word, not as individual letters) is to say your are sick...like with a cold or flu...

"yeah, i cant come out to play soccer today stevo, i got the hivz."

I'd never heard it said as 'the hiv'...

I figured it was something else.
