Sony A7, Atomos Shogun, Black Magic URSA with global shutter, AJA Cion
and for sure still a lot to come.. I have the idea Convergent should hurry
little with promised features of Q4 2013.

Awsome thread!!! keep them coming!!!

All I have to say is that there is a reason BlackMagic doesn't put a year on their "Shipping in July" release dates. They've been almost a year behind with their flagship cameras. These camera announcements are fantastic, but I'll take real cameras that exist in my hands (as opposed to only on paper) any day of the week.

Looks like the next update is a bug fix. After that, I heard 4K compressed and faster frame rates. No dates but I believe the bug fix will be "soon" - whatever soon means. CD-Booth_8853.jpgCD-New-Firmware_8856.jpg

I certainly would not trade the FS700 + 7Q setup for the new BMD camera, especially with their track record. So far, there's nothing I could afford that I would replace the FS700 + 7Q with.

It would be interesting if Atomos got licensed by Sony to record the FS700 raw as well. I little competition is always good. Also the Shogun has a proper full HD 1920x1080 screen. Which is about the only thing which bugs me about the 7Q, the low resolution screen.

Honestly, for an 8" monitor, 1280x800 is more than adequate IMO. I have absolutely no problems finding focus with the 7Q. If the screen were maybe 11 or 12 inches, yeah, the res-bump would be nice; but it is only 8"

I'm sure it's a fine screen. But having gotten used to retina displays it just doesn't feel very nice looking at lower resolution monitors anymore ;)

Anyway, having options of recorders for the FS700 wouldn't hurt.

I've found focusing with the O7Q to be razor spot on with recording 4k RAW. I hardly need to use the focus enhancment capabilities as the image "snaps" into precise focus with my Canon lenses. I would NOT like a screen any larger than the present 8 inch. No complaints here, nothing more needed for shooting.

Well, if it was possible to shoot 4K ProRes on the 1TB $99 drives that Atamos are gonna sell then it would have been a great option to those of us who can't quite swing a 7Q... At least I would love to have an option of what recorder to get. You can't say that having more options would be a bad thing.

I know I ask so much out of our great little camera, I'm not sure it can even be done but wouldn't it be nice if Sony was able to get us 10 bit out of the hxr-fmu out the side of the fs700

Agree with the more recorders/competition option(even though CD is doing an amazing job with their O7Q) it is healthy and keeps business "honest". I have never been a fan of proprietary media types like the overpriced SSD's that CD, RED, AJA, etc sell. I understand from a QC perspective of wanting to maintain some type of standard on quality and types of media being used, but the asking price for these 512/1TB disks are alarming. Even the high end products from market leaders in flash memory architecture(sandisk, samsung, corsair, OCZ) are priced at less then half of what some of these recorder manufacturers are charging.

QC is one thing, purchasing MLC NAND chips and slapping your company logo on it and marking the price up 500-600% is another.

I'm sure the bandwidth of the fs700's fmu is more then capable of handling full HD 10 bit, but then who buy an f5 :)

That would have been absolutely brilliant. That would be a reason to get one. Now there really isn't one, it's just overpriced.
