Wasting the DVX's potential: My shorts

I bought my DVX last spring and I've been following DVXuser ever since but I've never shared my work because it really doesn't show off the DVXs capabilities. It was really bought because I'd been wanting a MiniDV camera for ten years and I finally decided to buy the best. I have to tell you that a) I own one clip lamp, a piece of blue gel and a piece of red gel, and some diffusion. b) I'm red-green color blind so I never know if a shot is too green, too red, too orange, too anything except for bright or dark. I have a dozen other excuses.

Regardless, I wanted to share a short that I finished last night to see if anyone other than my coworkers, friends, and family find it entertaining.

Our videos are very "run and gun" but the more I look at everyone's work here, the more I'm trying to slow down, to light, and to get the most out of the camera. All of our videos are meant to be for educational purposes, my apologies ahead of time to those of you who have issues with the use of copyrighted music, etc. I've never made a single dime off of anyone else's work (the camera's not even paid for yet!)

I liked the one reflections, but it' looks like you definetly need to work on you lighting and comp's , the camera can pull off some amazing things but ; it can;t do it on its own! I look forward to seeing your future work

Of the 35 videos on the site, we've only shot 3 or 4 with the DVX. Reflection was shot with a digital 8 or a TRV-900, I can't remember. After I pay off the camera, I'm going to start looking into a very basic lighting kit. Then I'll start teaching myself some lighting techniques.

I laughed, I cried, I fell out of my bed chortelling so much I broke my ribs. You, sir, have a future in comedy routines. I loved the wine routine, the mickael jackson routine. But the thing rhat seemed to be missing was lighting amd comp. On that I agree with Nick.

thought it was pretty funny, especially when that guys asks for the baby :D

doesn't matter if you don't get evrything out of the dvx yet. keep on going and you'll find out by filming and testing

Re: Wasting the DVX's potential: My shorts

I saw the best picture.
I thought it was a good entertaining short. I would rather watch an entertaining movie with a good story with no budget, over a $280mil+<CAUGH>alexander<caugh!!> professionally lit, film movie any day of the week.

Good job.

Re: Wasting the DVX's potential: My shorts

Best Picture was really funny stuff! If the rest of the stuff is that good, I'm going to have to check them all out.

Re: Wasting the DVX's potential: My shorts

Thanks for the encouraging words. I showed the short at a dinner party tonight and it got a lot of loud laughs (though everyone had been drinking plenty of wine). It was interesting to show my stuff to a "live" audience. Everyone was really impressed with the quality of the DVX saying it looked like film. I love how just about anything you shoot with this camera becomes an instant advertisement for the DVX.

Re: Wasting the DVX's potential: My shorts

Best Picture was absolutely funny as hell! Great idea, great concept. I wouldn't be too concerned about the technicals in something like this because the execution of the concept and humor over shadows that. The techincals will come in due time. The more you do the more you learn. Keep it up and please post more!
