Washed out whites, no detail with DVX100b

Can't seem to find adjustments for this or perhaps the camera is made this way. I previously videotaped weddings with the Sony 3CCD cameras (VX1000, 2000 etc.) and found that when for example I videotape outdoors on a sunny day or indoors with on-camera light, the white dress retains all the detail, texture, folds with the Sony's. On the Panasonic, the dress is lacking detail, washed out unless I stop down thereby rendering the faces dark. I read the manual from cover to cover and just cannot find perhaps some adjustment that will make the highlights less sensitive to the CCD's.O use everything manual, iris, audio, focus etc. I always keep the gain 6db or below.

Use the "high" gamma and put the knee setting on low. Then use your zebras at 105% and make sure that you never, ever see zebras on the screen.

Another option to retain the highs is to use Cine-D, zebras at 105, and see no zebras ever. It just depends on whether you want a normal video-looking gamma, or a softer filmlike gamma to your image.

i was trying to adjust the zebra on my 100a and tried the settings mentioned above. no matter what i do i still see zebra unless i stop down like norman99 mentioned. what am i doing wrong?

Have you tried the look with the nd filter on 1/8 or if you like you setting and its REALLY bright throw it on 1/64

Doesn't work at all. As soon I stop down to retain the high key areas, the overall image is way too dark. Sony video system is far superior for color and saturation. My DCR-VX 1000 was the best in that respect. Anyway, I will wait to purchase the AF100 whenever that comes out. You can bet That the very first thing I will check is the highlights going washy.

that doesnt sound right - have you fiddled with the settings? master ped. could do it, drop it down n see what happens
