I actually got a gig a few days ago, my first day back from Sundance 11. It was for a documentary film called "America the Beautiful II" (working title) that is actually going to have a small theatrical release like "Food INC" did. This was my first gig on a film that I know is going to be transferred to actual film ($35,000 cost) and released so I am excited to see it and see my footage and hear my sound mix when it comes out in actual theaters. I got to do that at Sundance this year (which is a whole other crazy story I'll save for later) but I'm pretty sure it was a digital projection not actual film. (AWOL - official Sundance 11 selection)
You can rent or watch the first one "America the Beautiful" on Netflix. I was hired blind and knew nothing about it so after the gig I immediately went home and watched it. It was a pretty good documentary but the quality of the footage was poor / so so because I think he shot on lower end cameras (some of it's DVX100) but he still got it picked up and transferred to film AND released on Netflix so that's saying something!
This sequel will look a LOT better (at least my sequence!) as it is HD transferred to film rather than DV. The director was a very sweet kind guy and a pleasure to work with and let me call most of the framing and shots and was immensely impressed with the sound of my Sanken cs-3e rig, even going straight into the camera (HVX200a) . I am posting it in the GH forum because I had my laptop with me and showed him some GH13 footage of some of the latest projects I am working on and he was so blown away by the quality that he said he absolutely wants to use me on his next project and shoot on GHs and af-100s.. so I made a good contact with someone who already HAS distribution routes in place!
I'll let you know as the date gets closer and it gets released in theaters and if it's playing in your town maybe you can take a look. Meanwhile if you have Netflix you can check out the first movie here:
