Warranty Claim

Well, my "loose" pins aren't a very slight wiggle (they all do that to some degree), they altogether flop over at a ~45 degree angle, and some are outright visibly bent.

I bought my AF second hand, well over a year ago, so there's no chance it's still under any sort of warranty. I could probably pay shipping to send it in, get the repair quote, and then effectively "replace" it via insurance, being out then only shipping costs and my $500 deductible.

What I'll likely do instead is just use it gingerly for the time being until the m43 Speedbooster is released, buy one, put it on, leave it on for everything but my Voigtlander, and effectively turn the thing into a S35 camera one stop more sensitive than the original. Far from ideal, but it'll be less expensive and bothersome than switching to FS100 or C100 systems.

I would find it pretty hard to believe it was related to a Lumix lens, as you'd presume that the factory that builds the mount, and the factory that builds the lens, would talk to each other, and it seems very unlikely that that combination would cause a problem, doesn't it?

I would find it a lot easier to suspect a 3rd-party adapter. mcbob & little bobby, can we explore what lens adapters you may have? Maybe we can find something in common there -- PL adapters? Nikon adapters? If there's a particular adapter that's causing it, that would be something that I think we'd all want to know.

Just noting that some have marks on older lenses like the 14-140 but two have marks on the x lenses, maybe they are a little tight in the mount?

Hey Barry,

That camera did not use any lens adapters, only had the Lumix 12-35 and 35-100 on it. My personal camera, also an AF, has had the 14-140 on it, a cheap Nikon to M4/3 adapter, a novoflex Nik to m4/3, a minolta to m4/3 adapter, as well as the sigma 19mm and 30mm m4/3 lenses...and it doesn't have the problem.

It has been my experience that companies like Panasonic (and pretty much all large companies that make consumer and professional electronics) have communication issues and some departments never talk to each other at all, despite them both working on products that are supposed to work in tandem (i.e. camera + lens). Sony is notorious for this and I am sure Panasonic suffers on some level from this as well.

My personal opinion is that the tolerances on Lumix 12-35 that my work bought are not correct. The 35-100, 14-140, and sigma lenses, which are all m4/3, do not feel as "tight" when putting them on.

I can confidently say it's not 3rd party adapters at fault.

I have three Fotodiox adapters for Leica R, OM, and Nikon F. None of them has any material at all in the location of the pins - thus, no way in which they could cause bent pins. I use them with equal frequency on my GH2, which has no "bent pin" issues.

My Voigtlander 17.5 also has no material that could contact the pins. I also use it with the GH2 and EPL1 - no bent pins on either.

Simplified summary: I have 4 m43 cameras (AF100, 2x GH2, EPL1), which use a variety of lenses. Only one of these cameras has any sort of problems with contact pins bending. Neither the lenses or adapters are the problem here.

Roger that. Have you tried the 12-35 on your other various bodies, to see if it mounts cleanly or if it is indeed fitting too tightly and perhaps bending the contact pins?

No problems whatsoever with my 12-35 on the other bodies... In fact I use it on them more than on the AF.

Can't speak for Bobby's 12-35, but in my case I'm certain it's not at fault (my issue predates its purchase).
