When I go to 'log & transfer' I get the message "warning AVCHD media is unsupported on PowerPC based hardware"

What does that mean?

I just shot some test footage, it wasn't on a SDHC card, it was SD, could that be it?

"Voltaic" was able to convert the clip into a quicktime HD file, which I was able to see in FCP. But, it plays in the timeline but freezes on the monitor. When I stop playing it, the clip shows again where I stopped it. Would that QT file be sufficient, quality wise? Please, I can't afford a new MAC now!

if you're running 10.4 use toast 9 , if 10.5 toast 10 - it will convert to any codec stored in your harddrive

Another vote for Toast 10. Plus you can pick different segments to transcode from the same clip which saves disk space. And it has an excellent AVHCD player you can use without even launching Toast.
