hey everyone, i purchased a video camera on ebay, an fx7 for $1800, however it was a scam. This is a new one(atleast to me) so i wanted to let you all know how it works.

A "wholeseller" will contact an seller saying that they will pay them x amount for every camera they sell. The "wholeseller" will have the seller send them the payment from their sale, and then the "wholeseller" will send the seller a check for x amount.

however the "wholeseller" never sends out the check, or the item.

In my case, an ebay seller with great feedback was contacted by a wholeseller to sell cameras. I purchased a camera and sent payment through paypal. The ebay seller then contacted the wholeseller giving him my email and address to ship the camera. With this the wholesaler set up an email account that closely resembled my email, instead of benjilax they set one up as benjilaxx. They then emailed the ebay seller from that bogus email address saying that i had received the camera.

The ebay seller was under the impression i received the camera.
I was still waiting for a tracking number.
He sent money order to "wholesaler"
ebay seller screwed by wholesaler.
good ebayer refunded my payment.

please watch out for situations like this!!

WOW !!! the devil really does has work for idle hands ,, don't he ??

we are the only animals on this planet that screw one another over.

so sorry bout your loss :=( thnx for the heads up

WOW !!! AFTERTHOUGHT

if you have not been made whole yet,,, I think this seller is responsible to give you money since this seller is the middle man in the equation.

for lack of a legal expression, it's a provision in consumer laws that protects you since he/she is the one that REALLY GOT DUPED,,

anyhoot,, good luck

always use a credit card as funding source when sending large paypal payments. this way, even if the seller screws you and paypal doesn't play nice, you can always call your credit card company and do a chargeback. total protection. if you fund from your debit card or checking account, you are at paypal's mercy which sometimes sucks.

yea the seller seemed responsible for his actions, i paid through a credit card, so the ebay seller refunded the money through paypal, im just waiting for it to clear. he took the fall for the situation.

that is fortunate for you. he was naive in doing that 3rd party deal. good that he did the right thing.

Unfortunately, while you'll get your money back from your credit card company, you'll never be able to use Paypal again... if you do a chargeback after Paypal denies your claim, they'll put your account in the hole by that amount, and you won't be able to send payments (or withdraw any you receive) until the balance gets back to zero.

A similar thing happened to a customer of mine -- he sold a notebook on ebay, and it turns out the bidder paid with a stolen credit card. He'd already withdrawn the money from his account by the time Paypal realized it, so they put his account in the hole. Now he either has to pay them the money (and thus lose the money he had in the notebook), or never buy or sell on eBay again, other than with money orders...
