Warning: Stolen DVX in Vancouver

My uninsured DVX-100 package was stolen from my office over the weekend.

It is characterized by heavy sea salt corrosion on the upper body screws, and light salt damage across the entire upper body. It was stolen in a large green LowePro camera backpack.

I'm sure it'll eventually find it's way into the market, so if any of you Vancouverites see it on the job, please contact me so I can ninja it back and start making films again. Email johnr-AT-kife.com.

Oh, and if your DOP shows up with it, I wouldn't recommend shooting anything important, as it has some serious issues (the playback cadence is off!) and was slated for repair.

Thanks.

Yeah, that pretty much summarizes it.

Re: Warning: Stolen DVX in Vancouver

Hey I saw your posting tonight at the film campus at VFS about this stolen DVX. I'm very sorry to hear this as I know the feeling as well.

As you probably read, my DVX was stolen as well this past July '04 from my apartment while I was sleeping, along with $15,000 of other gear.

Was it stolen in the school or somewhere else?

Re: Warning: Stolen DVX in Vancouver

Where exactly in Vancouver is all this gear getting stolen from? This is madness!! It's too bad to hear you weren't insured, I hope things work out for you.

Ouch... No, I didn't know that. It was stolen from my editing studio, which is in a good building nearby. They climbed the building and went in the window. Luckily they didn't take the computer and drives, but they took pretty much everything else. All of my video cameras (of various descriptions), except a 1980 VHS camcorder and a PXL2000.

Looks like my film career is about to get a whole lot more experimental.

These kinds of stories are heartbreaking. :'(

Anyone reading this without insurance - Go Get Some! It's really cheap. Less then the case your camera is in!

Re: Warning: Stolen DVX in Vancouver

In your editing studio? Damn. Are you on Hastings?

The thieves that stole my stuff just walked up the fireescape stairs on the side of a 3 year old new condo building on Hornby Street and hopped over a few balconies (on top of the lofts) and unlocked my balcony door through the balcony window and took everything. You're so lucky they didn't take your computer drives and stuff. They took mine. That hurt the most because the information was of course non-replaceable and was more valuable than the computer and cameras itself. :(

Do you think it is someone you know? They wouldn't think about climbing building by 'trial and error' to steal something. They knew exactly where to go and how to get to it. It's the same with my situation. I strongly believe it's people that I know.

Re: Warning: Stolen DVX in Vancouver

Bro, I just seen this post and I'm sorry to hear the bad news. That must really suck. Too bad you're in vancover or else I can send a group of crazy dudes to look for your camera. X-gangmembers, they'll find your stuff. Anyways I hope you get your stuff back.

Re: Warning: Stolen DVX in Vancouver

Yep, they'll find your stuff, or steal you some

Do you have a serial number of your DVX? I agree with GETTING INSURANCE.

No, I think it was drug related. It's well known that my building is full of stuff, and my office was the easiest one to get into (although still very hard). Anyone I know would have been smart enough to take the 2.5 TB of firewire storage and the G5 over a DVD player and a digital8 camera.

As much as I'm upset about this, I'm very lucky and happy that they didn't take the computer.

Bluespider, I've got feelers on the street now. Okay, it just felt cool to say that, but seriously though, there is a possible lead on my laptop (which contains all of my scripts, which were somewhat backed up), so perhaps some of the rest will follow if I can track that down.

Re: Warning: Stolen DVX in Vancouver

Unfortunately not. Perhaps something will happen in the next week or so in the pawn shop / serial number reporting arena (for some of the other stuff), but I'm not holding my breath.

Re: Warning: Stolen DVX in Vancouver

I'm insured with Mossberg Firearms myself.

(And real insurance as well...heh.)

Speaking of which, what are you folks doing for insurance? I have a renter's policy, but I haven't updated that in ages. I'm also not sure if it actually covers things owned by my business (LLC)...

Re: Warning: Stolen DVX in Vancouver

I'd consult a pro. In my homeowners policy I just have a dollar amount to recover losses. If I can name it, they will replace it. Of course, then your insurance goes up.
