warning: some violence and adult images: Final "American Film Market 2005" teaser!

Ramzi this is certaintly a crazy accomplishement and a great example of making your own way in the film business. Let us know how it goes with Werner Herzog, I'm supprised he's interested in this project as it doesnt to be the kind of work I'd generally associate with him.

As for the trailer I wasnt all that impressed. I thought it looked and sounded like a mid-level student film. Some of the lighting I thought was pretty weak e.g the blueish scene with the girl on the bed and the guy in the foreground with big shadows on the walls behind them. Also I thought the girl with the fan in front of her face "you like to party?" was embarrasing. The sound recording didnt sound too great either; a little too reverby, the kind of sound you get from using the on-board mic or not pointing the shotgun mic at the actors mouths. Hopefully some of the image issues will look better after CC.

Could you give us a bit more information about the budget etc.? Is this actually based on a real murder? If so it felt like an exploitation film.

All the best. Good luck at the AFM.

Brian DePalma is making a movie of the same name based on the book of the actual case as well, which makes me have to ask... did you buy the rights to this?

Howdy everyone...

Happy new year, first off...

Nope, it's not an exploitation film.

Yes, I know about the DePalma film, and actually met with the producers of that film in January 2005, because they wanted us to change the title.

My film IS NOT based on the James Ellroy book, which btw has little to do with the murder case anyhow. His book is fictional and takes place in the late 40s after the murder.

The content of the case is public domain, and our film is about as different as one could possibly perceive anyone's take being on the film.

In addition, my film is of course copyrighted and registered, but you can not copyright or register a title unless it's with the MPAA, and even it would only pertain to films belonging to members of the MPAA. Also this does not mean anything in regards to ratings, theatrical release, or home video. The MPAA will still rate the film, etc. Anyhow, long story.

The footage in the trailer is not color corrected, and the mix is very rough.

There is a re-scored version up at http://www.musicformovingpictures.com but it takes a long time to load.

Anyhow, the film is almost finished, but it's got a bit more post to go, along with some creepy pick-ups necessary to completely wrap it.

Our budget is low, however it's a SAG film at the same time.

Werner is a friend of mine, but he may or may not end up in the film.

Last but not least, I am not 100% happy with the film, and it's more of a small home video experiment than anything else.

My next films should hopefully be better.

Thanks again, y'all.

All the best,

R

P.S. May 2006 bring everyone good health, great success, plenty of intuitive thinking, great karma, and a beautiful love of all things living and dead.

Btw, of course, my movie is also a work of fiction, and it has a documentary feel to some parts, because about 75% or more of the movie takes place in real-life/present-day Los Angeles (The City Of Broken Dreams).

OH, and last but not least... I dunno if any of y'all are MySpace-obsessed as I am, but there's a page for the film up there...

Images look great, but audio seems rough. Also, the acting goes from very good to not so good. But as you said, it's still in post. Great work overall.
