warning focus lock

Hi

I just recently purchased a new DVX100a and have had a couple of technical problems so far. The camera intermittently comes up with the error message 'warning focus lock' which flashes on the viewfinder and LCD screen and won't go away unless you turn the camera off and on again, or switch between cam and vcr.

I also (after 2 1/2 weeks) had the camera completely shut down on me, saying 'auto off unloading lock'. I was not able to eject the tape or do anything at all, so I took the camera back to the shop and they replaced the tape loading mechanism under warranty. I mentioned the focus lock error at the time but they said that they checked the camera over thoroughly and there was nothing (else) wrong with it.

I have now had the camera back for 2 days and have just had the focus lock error come up again. I have searched the posts on this forum for possible solutions to this problem but the only posts I could find were inconclusive. Is there anyone out there who knows what causes this problem? The manual simply says it is a 'problem with focus operation' but doesn't elaborate.

Please tell me I haven't bought a lemon! :o

Re: warning focus lock

Hi Fritz:

Yes, I along with several others on this site have had the same problem with the "focus lock". Jarred told me that he had it happen to him, but I believe it was only once.

I've had it happen to me several times (3 or more) although not any recently.

I don't think that it's a big problem, but please don't take my word on that one. Like you said, the best way to get rid of it is to switch back and forth between VCR and Camera and it goes away.

It doesn't appear to effect anything and I've never had it happen while recording.

Hope this helps,

eric

Re: warning focus lock

Thanks for the info eric.

Have you noticed whether it actually affects the camera's ability to focus? I tried recording while the error message was flashing last night, and like you say, it didn't seem to affect anything. I guess I'm just a bit nervous about letting it go, especially since I've already had that other problem and the camera is so new. Do you know of anyone having the camera serviced to eliminate the error? I wouldn't want to wait until it's out of warranty and then find that it becomes a bigger problem!!

Thanks again for your advice. It's comforting to know I'm not the only one who has encountered this error!
