warning about Auto Switch Recording

Today I had my HC-X1000 on Auto Switch recording so that when my first card ran out it automatically would switch to the second card.
shooting a soccer game today discovered that in the last minute or so the time remaining indicator begins to flash red. All good but I do continue to button off when the ball goes out of play and button on just before the game restarts. I found that if I button off in those last seconds , when I try to button back on the screen gets that Opaque rectangle with the words CARD FULL.. I no longer am able to roll record no matter how long I wait. If I wait for the warning to go away and return me to live picture and then try and roll record that screen re-appears. The only way I was now able to record to the second card was to switch off the camera switch cards and then switch the camera back on.
My advise is that if you are doing what I did , then once you see the flashing red time remaining DO NOT STOP RECORDING until after the camera switches to the second card.
Of course there may be another solution and I am open to any suggestions.

So you tried to record on the fumes of the card basically?

Why didn't you just switch cards while the camera was on, it would have been alot faster? You could've also gone to the Recording setup and Media select to choose the second card?

I always shoot with Pre-Rec and Auto Switch and never had a problem with it.

Speedster159,
I'm a bit simple when I set a feature that is designed to (as you put it) record on the fumes of the card before it auto switches to the second card, I expect that it is a function that the equipment is capable of achieving.
Clearly , I missed the part in the manual that describes that although we are able to set the camera to Auto switch we should not allow it to get into the fumes of the card.
When a camera has the auto switch feature, it presumably does as explained in the manual, switch automatically with a small interruption in the audio to the second card.
The audio interruption I can deal with but I am pretty sure the time to switch cards or go to the media setup to select the second card would have lost more than the small audio interruption.
What I will do differently next time.
As I mentioned in my post as a warning to others.
Once I see the flashing red timer , I will not button off in those last few moments until the camera performs its Auto switch to the second card.
thanks for your response

Hi Shellant,

The small audio interruption is also something that can be bypassed, by copied ALL folders on the card to your computer instead of just the video files.

I'm not a techo, but somewhere in those other files are the info the computer needs to knit those files seemlessly together, so the audio interruption is only experienced by those who only copy the video files.

Try it, it works! I've had this problem with my sub-contractors, until I got them to change their copying habits!

Cheers,

Vaughan

Thanks Vaughan
The few times that I have used the auto switch and expecting the jump in the audio , I haven't actually noticed it.
I do try and copy the whole card and contents as they appear on the SD card , which is probably why I haven't actually had the audio gap that the manual said I may get.
Most likely good luck more than good management but thanks for the heads up.
I am shooting soccer games so most likely wouldn't notice the audio anyway.
I am more concerned that any one in the same situation that I was in doesn't miss a crucial moment in an event they are filming by stopping record in those last moments
It certainly makes for a tense couple of seconds
cheers and thanks for your reply
