War Of The Worlds

I was expecting a lot from this movie .
After watching the original for many years and never tiring of it I thought the remake was a let down . The scene in which Toms son comes out in the end had boo and hisses from the crowd , after all he was in the valley when the tripods nuked it right . We thought the last 20 or 30 minutes was rushed as if they were in a hurry to finnish it . Total let down

Just bought the original (1953) today as this has the How they did it ..Something I never new was that Walter Lantz was part of the team . SOO they put Woody WoodPecker up in a tree in his nest ( a cameo). This occurs as the first ship Lands . All this time and I never noticed , apparently so did everyone else.

For me, it's not that it's BAD (except for the ending with the boy and the family). It's that it's . . . utterly unremarkable. Not a single distinctive thing about it. Average. Run-of-the-mill.

Yes, exactly!

That and the plot/writing things I have mentioned before just make the movie utterly boring and just unbelieveable to me.

Nice take Rich

I agree; the opening sequence in the theatre was silence amongst the crowd; good times.

LOL Too true

The opening was awesome... attetion getter for sure, I just felt it was all down hill from there. Sorry, John. I've seen it twice now and there are just some things that grab me out of the story and I just can't get back into it.

I don't mind the digital effects. I found them convincing enough.

I kinda wished the son would have died in the end. Steven said he wanted to make it reminiscent of 9/11....and to include a death of someone they cared about would have made much more sense...and would have added alot of realism and emotional depth to it. Happy endings are ok i guess....:undecided

It just didn't make sense for the son to live and their block to look like nothing was going on, everyone to be clean, etc.

There were audible laughs in the theatre at this point... and no, not just me. LOL.

well, I do not suppose that the boy should have died. I expected that he would but in the end he didn't so it was just right for me.

He was running towards a place that blew up... yes, he should have died. He wanted to fight and be brave, he should have died.

He didn't.

Oh well.

There's still other plot points that bug me.

The son surviving is typical Spielberg. And it really bugged the hell out of me and ruined an otherwise flawless film.

I just watched the film as well, and I thought it was incredible. Very fun to watch... I see at the bottom of the screen that there have been 36 pages of discussion, and I don't want to sift through them all to get my question answered. so would anyone be kind enough to explain what the red veiny stuff was doing? I know it was made of blood... but what was it there for and why did the aliens let it grow if they drank blood?

The ending was too abrupt; like the book and true to form.

Why people dont dig this film makes me think they just try to hard not to like it. Is it the greatest film ever? No. But great popcorn faire

Wow! I didn't read all the posts, but there seem to have been alot of people that have been drinking the purple koolaid.

That was one of the worst movies, from a storytelling standpoint that I've seen in a long , long time. Hell, I think the 80'movie Hardware was almost as good. :)

When I feel so out of sync like this it makes me wonder if I should be making movies at all.

That said WAR OF THE WORLDS was a lot better than my first feature. :)

Hardware ?

OMG; I fell asleep watching this in the theatre; I was a Repoman and working graveyard.....

Koolaid? Shadddduuuppppppp.....

You people have ZERO taste in films.

What do I mean? I mean if you digged Jurassic, The Mummy, Pirates of the Carribean, Minority Report (Need I go on....) then you probably dug this one. Pure popcorn delight.

If you literally 'DID NOT LIKE IT' then what are you even doing at this site?

LOL John, you'd make such an awesome politician.
