Wanted!

The director was showing off. I like that guy. He is totally ridiculous, but fun. I went in only wanting to see what he was going to pull off. I just did not take it seriously at all. Jolie looked amazing though. I think everyone in the movie got their brains blown out. Timefest was much more satisfying.

That is possibly the most mixed review I have ever read. :undecided

I have a question about this movie. Do they have powers that allow them to do these things or are we supposed to believe that they are just highly trained individuals breaking the laws of physics?

I've yet to see it. Just wondering based on the trailer.

My reservations exactly...People forget that The Matrix took place in a virtual reality where the laws of physics could be bent because they didn't really exist. The idea of bending bullets is ri-god-damn-diculous. They would have to snap their arms so hard they'd fly our of their sockets to even bend a bullet a half a degree, if at all.

But Batutta, what if no one ever TOLD you that bullets fly straight. Then you'd be able to curve them, right? That's what Morpheus said... er.... Morgan Freeman said. You have only been brainwashed into thinking they cant curve.

And, BTW, that is ONE of my biggest problems with the film. It is never established what universe the story takes place in. In the X-men/superhero films, we are aware that we are in a comic book world. It may LOOK like ours, but we know there are beings with these powers. In Wanted, they only establish it as OUR world. Then there are these crazy things happening and we are supposed to accept it "because it's a film" or "it's fiction".

Aaaah.... I'll pass.

:dankk2:

Michael, you'll never really know how truly bad this film is unless you see it. It's like The Happening. You just HAVE to see how bad it is. Hearing it from others doesnt do it justice.

And dont ignore this glowing review in the After Effects section:

I Just saw the movie Wanted last night, and it was amazing. There was a twist that almost beats the one in SAW, the plot was great and the FX were AT THERE BEST. So much so I want to make my own version of what was done in the movie. There are many scenes where somthing would happen, and the action will pause at the most amazing times. For example this guy was hit with a computer keyboard, and it paused after the impact, with all the keyboard pieces in Mid air, as well as the guys tooth, and then it shoots back to real time, and all the CG elements fall to the floor.

Go see it. Sneak in though. I want the box office as low as possible as to avoid the inevitable Wanted 2: Electric Boogaloo.

Tell you what. I'll wait until my Nephew buys it and then I'll steal it from him. :D

it takes place in the realm of the director who is a fantastic director nightwatch superb. I barely saw this till i found out who made it. grade A fun action.

Garbage...

If you want an example film of what's wrong with film making today, this is it.

1) No respect for physics. Bullets fly straight, buses cannot support Vipers, when two cars crash they actually damage each other. This level of disrespect for physics pops most people right out of the story. Don't try to play it off as 'mindless fun', when you hit this level of stupidity the very worth of the story comes into question.

2) No character development. We are supposed to believe that a meek twenty-something can be talked into becoming a random-target assassin in the course of around 6 movie minutes. If you are going to go there then you'd better dedicate more story time to it. The whole friggin movie could have been a character study on this alone and been far better for it.

3) Continuity in the fight scenes. Characters get the $#!^ kicked out of them and take no injuries. Amazing! The protagonist clearly gets his scalp cut open but continues fighting without bleeding profusely from said scalping. Wow! We put you in a bath of Krispie Creame icing and you get all better! Pa-lease!!!

4) Expedient behavior. Characters do things that make no sense but move the story along so the next scene can be shown. This is born from a "Movie is a Collection of Scenes" philosophy vs "Movie is a visual Story about People' philosophy. I believe the best films strike a 10%/90% balance here, action films maybe 25%/75%. One or two WTF?!? moments will pop me right out of the story. The 'rogue assassin's' behavior is totally wrong through the entire movie and they try to explain it at the end with a flashback montage at the end (totally childish film making here).

5) Angelina Jolie. She looked totally emaciated. What is it with Hollywood starlets who go on these crazy (and sometimes dangerous) diets? Who is telling them that they need to look like walking skeletons? Her arms were twig thin and she is supposed to be fighting with big burly men?

Don't think for a moment that this is "Just a Fun Film" and that I "Don't Get It". This is a bad film that could have been a lot better. Could have been a lot better breaks down like this: High dollar talent + buckets of money = Good to Great film.

Woooow!

Woooow!

Isn't there anyone out there who realizes that this is a movie based off of a comic book series? I mean come on. Most of the things that you all find so wrong about this film all take place in the comics, and if any of you twits even took a second to think about it, you'd realize that in the comic realm, you can do anything you want. I wish people knew what they were talking about before they bashed something. Without knowing the whole story you just sound like a self righteous moron.

It was not presented in that fashion at all. Sin City, Dark City, Spider Man, Batman, the (not so) Fantastic Four all use style to convey up front that the viewer should suspend reality. The opposite is true here. Nothing to tell the audience that the absurdities are coming.

BTW, movies are made for movie-goers. If the movie-goer needs to be told that the film is this way due to its origins as a comic book, then that is still a monumental failure by the filmmaker.

ha ha, the curvy bullet. Maybe the stupidest idea since New Coke.

But I mean, the curve bullets were in the trailers. How could you not see it coming?

And seriously? This was your most anticipated film of the summer? How many decent assassin movies NOT directed by Luc Besson have there ever been?

This was a film based on a comic, but I didn't see it because I couldn't get over Jolie playing Fox = a black female. I know no one cares but that shut this film down for me. (Fox intentionally looked like Halle Berry).

A black female?! Hell, the blue/green alien woman that Captain Kirk was trying to bang would't have saved this Wanted turd...

You're right about this being a strong piece of evidence for the prosecution...

But I still say the "smoking gun" is Exhibit A:

Wow...when I started reading this thread I couldn't believe the hate towards this film. i have not seen it...but even I know it was based on a comic strip...AND the female character was supposed to be black. Knowing this I would have went into the theater expecting...umm...the crazy mess that everyone is talking about and just had fun with it. I guess a man crawling up the sides of buildings spewing out huge amounts of webbing is more real than this...or even a man in a bat suit trying to make an unbelievable role more gritty and realistic...????. Movies are supposed to be fun. What happened to that?

I'm sorry...but for those of you who claimed the trailers don't show you anything like this is ....um....more than a little off. Everything about the trailer was unrealistic...I still have the trailer to this day. The man (supposedly the main character's father) running and throwing himself through a building while shooting the enemy all the way accross another building AND making it into the next building only to go an kill another bad guy....PLEASE!!!! We are not talking aboiut a building two feet away...more like half a football stadium...C'mon folks. The flipping of the corvette...the curving bullets....the whole trailer screams FANTASTICAL. What were some of you expecting? Anyways...to each his own.

Sorry...but had to have my little rant...no offense to anyone in particular. JM2C
