I'm in the same boat, but BH has the cobra crane 1 full package for 279.00 +SH a pretty good deal in my books, and I think that's what I'll end up with. You should check it out.

i have the skycrane jr. and its not only a great crane but the people who make it are great, i sent it back and got some customization and its now not only an 8ft crane but a 4ft jib arm!

I just bought cobra crane 2 plus. It's a little more spendy, got it directly from a promax distributer for a great price. 12' crane that can hold up to 25lbs. Nicest piece of equipment I own, well except for the DVX. ;D

that's good, I can't imagine needing a 12' for the things I want to accomplish, I mean the cobra 1 is 6' plus your tripods height so you can easily pull 10' with that' plus it's a bit cheaper than the 2 and if you don't plan on adding on extra camera equipment I think it's more than enough

Sorry, I didn't mean 12', it is actually more like 8 1/2 or 9 (I must have been high) :-X, however, it can come apart and be used as a 4' jib as well. But yeah, if you never plan on adding any weight to your camera, the 1 should be fine.
