want to understand etchings on dvx-100b leica dicomar lens

Hi,

I've gotten myself pretty familiar with how lenses work now but I still am not grasping what the etching mean on the lens of the DVX-100B.

There are:

10x Optical Zoom (a circle with a line through it) 72mm

f= 4.5 ~ 45mm 1:1.6

---------------------------------------

OK so from what I understand it's a zoom lens with a focal length of 72mm.

So I'm assuming that this would mean that maximum telephoto has a focal length of 72 mm.

Could anyone tell me what the widest focal length is?

f-4.5~45 mm ok, I know what f-stops are but I don't get these markings.

Could anyone put the details behind how the got these number/what they mean?

zoom is a 10x optical with focal length range of 4.5 - 45 mm

the 72mm refers to the thread size for filters

the 1.6 is the lowest f stop the camera is capable of.

oh ok! the 72 mm is the thread size for filters right.

so I get it now

10x4.5mm is 45mm hence the 4.5~45mm does give 10x

I also notice that the 1.6 x 10=16 and f16 is the greatest f-stop on the lens
so that also coincides with the 10x

thank you :)
