Want more frame rates? Too bad, you can't have them.

First thing i wanted to do was see if the frame rate hack from the HVX200 would work with this camera. Saved a scene file to sd card and was delighted to see that it's pretty much the same as the hvx, just a text file with values for each setting. But unfortunately any number other than a "sanctioned" one that i plug into the frame rate section just results in 24 when it's loaded onto the camera. So no 2fps hack. I didn't test exhaustively, but i did try 2 and 13 with no luck.

Not too big a deal since the timelapse function offers 1fps with 1/2 sec shutter. But it's annoying that the timelapse function only lasts for 1 shot. You have to turn it on each time in the menu.

There is a procedure for lowering the frame-rate below 12 in the VariCam Engineering menu; I was hopeful that something similar exists for the AF100, but so far my Panasonic guru has not revealed it's existence.

Maybe in a software update...

Good shooting and best regards,

You can set the camera to Interval record, and set it for 1 frame per second, and set up a 1/2 second exposure, leaving you with an effective 1FPS with 180degree shutter.

Used it in Texas its great....

That's certainly helpful, but my favorite slow frame rate is 4 fps. Oh, well...

Good shooting and best regards,

You can shoot at 1/4 second exposure, that gives you 4fps with 360-degree shutter.

And no, the hack doesn't work, that's one of the first things I tried. But really, with the 1/2-sec shutter, that's pretty much all I really wanted anyway, as that gives us the 2fps/360-degree shutter look. And now that the slow shutter works in intervalometer mode, you can get 1fps @ 180-degrees.

Yea! Thanks Barry!

Agreed, but i am gonna miss the scene file dial. It made it so quick to be able to bounce back and forth between 2fps and standard frame rates. But i guess i can learn to live without out it. And now that it's in 1080 instead of 720, I'm sure i'll have no problem adjusting :)

Oh, I totally miss the scene file dial! Been working without it for so long that I forgot how nice it is to have... man, yeah, that scene file dial was the best. I miss it.

Lol.. I was searching high and low for the AF's version of it!, cant believe they left such a great feature out.
