Want a FREE DVD of my movie 'Tangled Web'?

Dude! Just watched that Tangled Web man! I like it. I thought it was a bit cheesy at first, but that ending was tight as hell. Like I knew something was wrong and I guessed some of it, but I didn't know everything and it was nice how you made it do what it do, know what I mean. And yeah, Rebecca Morris was the bomb on this. She was real good and held it all together.

Yeah, like I said we love Rebecca. She's great! Everyone worked hard and gave 1000%. They had a tough job, doing an entire movie in just 3 days. But they were pros. In fact, they were so good that there weren't any bloopers -- I had to make one happen. (It's at the end of the credits, in case you missed it.)

It always makes me smile when someone says they didn't figure out how it was going to end. Thanks so much!

Oh, I know I talked crap about the cover/poster art, and it is 80's pornish, but as a backdrop for the DVD it was real cool looking. The only thing was I would've liked to see some DVD extras. And what did you shoot on and light with, it looked real good. I think you should've shot it with a real webcam to get the look, but it's looks like a professional soap opera. I mean that in a good way. It was pro work, I just think it was too good for webcam footage.

I wish I had something to put in the DVD extras. We should've done documentary stuff, but we didn't. All I can think of to put in there is me sitting on-camera talking about how we did it, and that would be dull.

I agree that it looks TOO good, not webcam-like enough. Wish I knew some way to do that in post. We shot on a DVX100a. Lighting was with basic worklights. Sound was mainly a Zoom H4 and a couple of Zoom H2's, using their internal mics. If I had it to do over, I'd probably shoot on a different camera -- maybe even a 1-chip analog consumer cam, to give it more of a webcam look. I'd put barndoors on the lights (already building them) and use the Rode NTG-2, which I now have.

Oh and I liked her painting the room then repainting it. That ish was wild. I thought she was going to go crazy and do something you played it straight. This could've easily been whack, but you kept it on track. Great job.

Yeah, we actually thought of that painting bit on-the-fly. We'd bought paint intending to repaint the bedroom after shooting was done, and the idea just came to us. Glad you liked it. :)

Thanks so much Nathyn!

I just watched my FREE copy yesterday. Such a great idea for a promotion!

I was really thrown off for the first 10 minutes or so by the lack of changing camera angles. But, I'm glad I stuck it out to see the end, which made the whole thing worth it. Very smart stuff, indeed.

Thanks! I wrote the script, so it's very flattering to hear such kind words.

I, too, loved the part when she painted her room and then repainted it. Super good idea.

A classic story that we'd all recognize, but with some really original twists and turns.

Thanks again. :)

My only issues with the film was some of the dialogue audio didn't have any room tone underneath it. So the dialogue sounded like it was cutting in and out. And the other thing was the lack of camera angles. It worked for what you were trying to accomplish, but I was craving more. A very interesting way to shoot a film, definitely original, but it probably won't make you commercially viable. Especially in this 3 millisecond attention span, post youtube world.

I hadn't noticed that about the sound. Any spots in particular? I'll check into that.

I know what you're saying. But that was part of what made it possible to shoot the whole movie in 3 days. We didn't have to move the camera or lights. Didn't have to shoot multiple takes of the same scene for coverage. All of that helped us do the movie on an extremely microscopic budget.

I honestly think that if you remade this movie with some C-list, B-list celebrities, and showed more of the story than just what the webcams saw, you could easily get distribution. I mean, the ending was worth it's weight in gold.

That's worth thinking about. If I could make some money off this version, maybe I'd do that.

All in all, very cool. I'm glad I watched it. You guys should be very proud. You have actually filmed a FEATURE. That is amazing.

Thanks so much, Rob! I truly appreciate it.

If you shoot something like this again try shooting it on a Flip or that Kodak zi8 everyone keeps talking about, with the mic jack. That could pass for hi quality web cam video. Do "Tangled Web 2: Strung Alone."

-Nate

Funny you should mention that Nate. I do have a Flip. Coincidentally, I just sent an email to the Flip marketing people about another feature I want to make. Trying to convince them to loan me 9 Flip Ultras to shoot it on.

Wow! Good luck. Did you let them know you were doing a feature? And what are you doing for sound?

-Nate

I did tell them it was a feature. Sound would be recorded separately -- quality mics piped through a mixer and into a digital recorder. An elaborate setup, but necessary.
