Wall Street 2

Honesty, I'm just a bit tired of him at this point, and he's never really shown enough range to make me think he could hold his own with Gekko. Seems like a questionable casting decision to me.

Charlie Sheen wasn't exactly Brando...and Oliver Stone isn't known for being easy on his actors. I'd find it questionable if he didn't really fit the milieu, like casting him in a Scorsese gangster epic, but for this he seems a natural fit.

Maybe, but Sheen had just recently done Platoon, whereas Shia has just done…Transformers 2.

We agree to disagree.

Ah, you just don't like him, and that's fine. I think his hyper caffeinated intensity is right for this arena. There's probably a lot more guys on Wall Street that look Shia than look like Charlie Sheen. And honestly I don't think I've ever seen him give a "bad" performance. He's just never really been tested much, mostly playing 1 dimensional roles in cartoon movies where he just cashes in on his own persona. But he has a transparency and honesty that I think a good director could get something out of.

I guess it's just something we'll have to grumble about and accept. The guy gets parts, and he's not going anywhere in the near future.

I've not sat through an entire LaBoof film. (Watching Transformers on an iPod on a plane doesn't count)

I'm excited about the trailer nonetheless. Although, WTF was that on the Hudson river, a speedboat? Kinda bush league CG, I'd say.

Did I say I didn't like him? No.

I did say I'm a bit tired of him, and questioned his range. In fact, I'd rather see a Joseph Gordon-Levitt or Jim Sturgess in Wall Street 2. Both have given far better performances and shown much greater range than Shia has. I'm not saying he can't, but he hasn't shown me anything worth getting excited about.

Just bring this guy back and we'll all be happy

Ok...I just get annoyed when people rag on an actor for no reason other than his popularity (not saying you're guilty of this). Like I think Leonardo DiCaprio was getting a bad rap for a while only because of his heartthrob status, ignoring the fact that he's actually a capable actor, which had been proven before Titanic (This Boy's Life, What's Eating Gilbert Grape). I thought he was miscast in Gangs of New York mostly because that was a thinly written role, and DiCaprio doesn't have the inherent personality to compensate for that (which someone like Shia does). But I think he's more than proven himself with The Aviator and The Departed. Hopefully Shia proves himself on this movie.

Agreed. I think Shia has better performances in him, but he needs to get over the one-note, bug-eyed, over-the-top deliveries he's been giving. Granted, they fit the movies he's been doing, but I think with this movie, we'll finally be able to see if he has the goods to be anything more than DiCaprio-Lite.
