Looks to me like Sigma have really done their homework. Both the zooms and primes look amazing on paper. No details yet on price, but Sigma have a good track record in providing value. So fingers crossed...
Back in the day the AF clutches and electronic contacts just did not provide professional reliability on Stigma lenses. I dont like missing shots and (electronic) Stigmas have left me with my pants down.
Nowadays certainly Nikon feel completely off the curve for filming and the 18-35 in stills form has an OK rep AFAIK. Certainly nimble thinking going on here that we dont see at Nikon.
The pricing on all their glass since the Art range came along has been absurdly good. I bet the primes will be under £2,000 and the zooms not too much more - especially considering a GL 18-35 rehouse is about £2,800.
RIP Re-housing services that offer Sigma lenses :/ Sigma will probably price these lower than their rehousing of the same lens.
I want the 18-35 and 50-100. I just hope they fix the breathing of the 50-100 because it is really obvious. My non-cinema friends even saw the breathing on my tests I conducted because I thought maybe I was being over dramatic.
Now we have these and the Zeiss LWZ 21-100. Probably save a couple of thousand going with Sigma's.
These look REALLY appealing, I've seen nothing but impressive results from the samples of the Art glass that I've seen so far. I just wonder whether they'll be able to match the delightfulness of the Zeiss coatings and the Bokehliciousness of the 18-blade apertures on my CZ.2s...
The primes will certainly heat things up though - having the choice now between these and the Celere HSs (which I was really impressed by when I saw them in person) is super exciting. A set of Superspeeds that I can have at all times would be great.
The 50mm Art was already very close optically to the otus and milvus (as well as having AF). I'm curious to see how the sigma Cine lenses will stack up to zeiss in terms of quality and price. I have a feeling it will be cheaper and almost identical optically in addition to having the benefits of being a true cine lens.
