Wacom Graphire and Intuos Systems

I just got my Wacom Graphire3 6x8 pen tablet system and I love it. I know many editors who swear by it, and will only use them. I love mine to death and think more people should know how usefull this product is.

The pen, when in photoshop, will make the brush tool thicker the harder you press on it. The end of the pen is an eraser that requires no switching of tools, just flip the pen around. The size of the tablet is the size of the tablet corresponds to the size of the screen and eventually, you learn how to move efficiently, w/o having to drag your mouse around.

The system also comes with a mouse, if there is somthing that may be easier with that. One of the greatest features is both the pen and the mouse are wireless, and require no batteries. I reccomend more people check these out, I think they could make your work flow as an editor/compositor much faster.

The 6x8 graphire is a great addition to the graphire line for people who can't justify the cost of the intuos line. Personally, I think the graphire line is lacking in resolution, but it can still be very useful and remains a powerful tool. :)

Re: Wacom Graphire and Intuos Systems

It's not so much that I can't justify the price of a line. I think that what the intuos offers vs the graphire is minimal to what i need it for. The intuos will offer more sensitivity when using applications like PS, about twice as much i belive, and also has all the shortcut keys on the top. We use the Intuos systems at work and I'm no stranger to what they can do.

I believe that the Graphire is perfect for Editing, Compositing, PS work and 3D artistry. I would hate to look at it as a cheap alternative to something, which it is not. It's what I wanted, and I am very happy with it.

YEah.. I had the wacom a few years ago but got stuck on the big trackball because after 10 hours on the computer your wrist doesnt start to hurt. the wacom is very cool though when you get used to it.

those Wacom Tablets-love em to death doing Photoshop work, butttt, not so sure in editing.

Re: Wacom Graphire and Intuos Systems

Maybe I just need a while to get used to it but a friend of mine has alot of workers using it and I tried to mess with it everytime i go there. I feel alot faster erasing backgrounds or whatever just using the mouse. Maybe its just me but im not gonna spend the money unlesss i feel its better.

Re: Wacom Graphire and Intuos Systems

thanks for bringing up that point, skettalee! To add to what I wrote earlier, it's great for Photoshop work, not so great on straight editing, but great again for compositing: erasing backgrounds/wires, keyframing, rotoscoping, and pen tool work.

Re: Wacom Graphire and Intuos Systems

yes, Skettalee, u do have to get "used to it," like anyting else in life, but once you do get used to it, you will know which jobs it works for and which jobs it doesnt work for. Also, I dont know about everyone else here, but I was graphic designer before I got into photography, then cinematography, so, needless to say I got the hang of it pretty fast. Oh, and u dont feel as if u have to get the biggest and baddest one, since the cheapest one usually does job, anyway(which i have had for 3 years, and see now reason to upgrade yet).
