VXF Solution for Fixed Pattern Noise?

Hi all. I like the image coming out of the D5200. But in low light, the fixed pattern noise problem can definitely rear its ugly head. There are two issues with this. One is obviously with the image itself. But the other is the stress FPN puts on the codec when compressing the image for delivery.

I've used Neat Video and it does help. But contrary to what some people have said. I see no indication that Neat Video treats FPN in some special way that recognizes FPN per se. It does reduce it, but elimination is impossible. And even getting it manageable can at times lead to a seriously blurred image.

So my question is how to get rid of once it's been baked into the image (reshooting is not an option). I also want to say that one of the side effects of using the excellent Flaat profiles is more FPN, even with Flaat 10 which I find very excellent.

I mentioned in the title VXF. Because I remember reading somewhere something along the lines "FPN is the easiest thing to remove in post by using a..." Maybe it involved creating a matte of some sort and inverting it. I really don't know. But if anyone has a VXF solution that would be GREAT and AWESOME.

Thanks SO MUCH!

Neat Video, Crushing blacks and adding some grain helps. Other than that I haven't heard about any specific tool. Download the free trial of Filmconvert and try that grain, it seems to stick better even in dark parts.

Here are two things that I've found that help, but they aren't what I had read. First is doing an inverted luma matte so that the noise reduction is applied mostly to the darker area of the footage. The second is adding a small vertical blur to the results of the NR (still using a matte to mostly affect the darker portions). Hope that helps someone. :)

David, I've never done a video tutorial before, but I could explain in more detail what I did, but those details would be specific to using Avid Media Composer and the Boris Continuum Complete plugin.
