VX1000 analog in

It’s been a while since I broke out my VX 1000 I’m in the process of trying to use the camera as an analog to digital converter. In the past, I would put my analog source via RCA into the composite input on the side of the camera. The camera would auto detect the source and switch the DV from in to out. Then I would be able to see the composite signal on my editor via the fire wire. I am seeing the VX 1000 camera as well as playback into the editor, but not the analog source coming into the composite input on the side. Any help is appreciated.

I get what he's trying to do; he's trying to run analog signal through the VX 1000 so it converts to DV and he can capture it through Firewire. I used to do the same with the DVX.

Is there a way to monitor the analog input on the camera to be sure it is detecting the video?
Perhaps it needs to be in a certain mode (recording) for it to be on the DV out.
Can you record the analog input on the camera and play it back out the DV?

My understanding camera output video they don't import video.

Don't be cheap buy analog to digital convertor they're inexpensive.

The DVX did. I could run analog through it and capture as DV from Firewire. Sounds like it works that way with the VX 1000, too.
So if that's the case why is he asking?

I haven't owned one of those old firewire camcorders in so long I can't remember. Most any modern camcorder today will not work that way.
Besides that you have to have a computer with Firewire and compatible video editor to do that. On Amazon they sell RCA to USB convertors for $30

I purchased a Canopus 110, years ago because I would never use an expensive camera for such a mundane task.

From what I gather, he's having trouble making it work now.
I did a quick search and I stand by what I originally said the RCA on the camera only output video and will not import pass a signal through the camera. What basis do you have to say that's not the case?

Because so many miniDV camcorders had the ability to act as a DV Bridge for analog playback sources, and to record from an analog source like VHS to miniDV within the camera. From what I remember, the VX1000 also has this ability.

@SharkMan_1 Make sure that your camcorder is set to VTR mode, and that A/V to DV is set to ON. (Also, check to be sure that DEMO MODE is set to OFF.)

This is the sort of thing that does not help the forum - Insulting a person making an inquiry, followed up by posts disputing what they said as being true, while not having any actual experience with the product; especially a to a new member. I'm not disputing what you or Sharkman are saying, only the approach.

The web is full of good and bad information. For all I know, this AI overview is based upon this thread.
