Volunteers wanted for shoot near Bryson City, NC

Hi all,

I'm Todd Burch--I live in Sumter, SC, which is about 45 minutes east of Columbia.

I adapted the short story "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge" by Ambrose Bierce and have wanted to make it into a short film. It doesn't have much dialog, but has an interesting story (See the brief script I put together for it Here: http://rapidshare.de/files/24764599/owlcreek.pdf.html).

I've never done any dramatic work before--just weddings & documentary-style freelance work. But I've been wanting to make this thing for awhile.

I figure it's a project that can be shot in maybe two weekends (has to be weekends as I work during the week), and I'd like to do it on a near-zero budget.

I'd like to shoot this in western NC (about a 4 hr drive from here) in the Great Smoky Mountains near Bryson City, NC.

I know a few other folks on the DVX site I was going to ask for help as well--I figure we can pool our resources, knowledge, and abilities to put together a neat project.

Anyone interested? I've got a DVX and some other nice equipment (Sennheiser MKH-416, dolly, boom, etc.)--but would like to shoot it in HD with the HVX if someone else on the project has one.

As far as a timetable, I'm getting married in mid-October and moving not long after that, but I think that gives us enough time for this. What do you think?

Ideas for the project:

Ideas for the project:

All,

Incidentally, the Twilight Zone featured this story a long while back.

Just a few ideas for those who have read the script linked in my previous post:

1) Would still want to scout these out, but for the bridge location, there's a neat one along the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad which would work: http://www.galen-frysinger.ws/us/smokyrr24.jpg...although a smaller river would work better.

2) Sentries, Union soldiers watching along the banks, and Sarah: Could be volunteer Civil War Reenactors--they could also provide the costumes/weapons/historical insight.

As an estimate, I think we need at least the following for production behind the camera:

1) Director
2) Camera Operator/DP
2) Two grips
3) Boom Operator/Audio Recordist
4) A few friends to help with makeup/costumes/anything else.

Just some ideas to get the juices flowing.

-Todd
