Volume level

I should know the answer to this, but I don't. What is a good level to set the volume control on the DVX100B? I keep the audio meters out of the red, but the volume is still way too loud. Should I turn the volume all the way down?

Spinal Tap, - god i'm showing my age.

- Turn the volume down to about 3/4 and use headphone's to monitor the sound.

actually i think you should turn your levels up, the red starts at -12db which is very low, you want about 3 reds -6db as your peak, maybe try one channel on that & the other lower at about -12db (start of the red) to be safe but you won't get any digital distortion unless your level hits 0db

I seem to remember Barry Green suggesting having the peak at 3-4 red bars.

not RECORD level, wasn't it?????:violin:

Yes. I need to know what's a good starting point for the volume level so that I can peak at 3-4 red bars.

I'm wondering the same question as well.

When recording with a Sony ECM44b lavalier, I need to have the Channel 1 cranked all the way to the right to get 3 red bars/dots.

Is this normal? Does anybody get 3 red bars/dots at the 12 o'clock position? If so, how?

Thanks.

P.S. Yes. I have set the input to mic, not line.
