Voigtlander Brothers

For a fast zoom???
I sure wish Voightlander made them...

If I would be Panasonic I'd think a bit more about trying to establish MFT as a standard that has some degree of "survivability". Having some fast wide zooms above the amateur level would be one step.

I can only hope that the new Panasonic lenses allegedly coming next year will deliver. But already it seems for this lenses too: no witness marks, no defined mechanical stop at infinity and nearest focal distance - which I find rather annoying. But maybe it's my age: I also find AF a mayor annoyance most of the time because it has the ability to destroy a decent shot in no time.

Honestly: Panasonic should give every help to Voigtlaender to bring out the 10mm / 12mm equivalent to the 25 mm asap. A family of great lenses may bind and bring enough new people towards MFT.

And then we all dream about a smaller, lighter, shorter, faster version of a cine varotal from Voigtlaender..... yep: for under 1000 $ ...... ;-)

I shot an entire webisode with just the voigtlander 25mm. Moved the camera back for full shots, moved in close for closer shots. Remember the Voigtlander 25mm focuses up to 6", so you can get an ECU with it. Not flattering in close ups? Just shoot ugly people and it won't matter. Or shoot cute people and we'll hardly notice they need a face-lift. Besides, I have a Nikon 50mm f/1.8 and a Nikon 85mm f/1.4, but I experimented and shot only with the Voightlander just to see how things would turn out. It's not fantastic, that's the first thing I shot with the AF100, didn't even bother with changing the settings on the camera and we shot at 200 iso.
Grading Desaturated and applied film look to all the shots but the penultimate shot. As a beginner, I obdurately refused to spend money I didn't have, getting into lens cock-fighting, but I realized quickly why people use a follow focus. Focusing by hand was a pain. Until a decent zoom turns up, my only purchase will be a follow focus, a GH2 and Steadicam Merlin for moving shots, and maybe a shoulder thingy to get me off sticks.

This is my personal Director school. I'll shoot 28 corny webisodes to
teach myself directing, then attempt my first feature. A Sci Fi.

Truer words never spoken, tipota!!!

Hey Jan... how 'bout a meetup of Panasonic and Voigtlander??? :2vrolijk_08::2vrolijk_08:

The Voigtlander 58mm f/1.4 is another lovely (and affordable) lens, and it'll give you a closer match to an 85mm perspective on S35mm than the 50mm will.

The 25mm and the 58mm will be my go to primes if I end up with the AF100 (I'd opt for the 35mm and 85mm Rokinons if I go for the FS100)

I accidentally ended up with (2x) 25mm .95 Voightlanders by mistake. If anyone is interested in the one lens please PM me.

What I really.... I mean really like about the Voigt's is their almost tank-like solidity apart from the optical qualities. This is a lens you feel you could throw at your leading man or your producer and still use it afterwards.... ;-)

Will go on a longer vacation to the south soon and will probably just take my GH2 and the 25er with me (okay, maybe the 75er too... but then my 50 might feel abandoned, darn.....)

I am not sure about that but I believe having read somewhere, that when Cosina bought Voigtlaender they also acquired old licenses and know-how from Rollei who was once considered the truest competitor to Leica. They still should "sit" on a lot of old construction plans of very fine lenses that may need only modernization. Is a zoom amongst that....? Wishful dreaming on my part...

Don't know if Panasonic and Olympus have learned the lesson that Sony learned the hard way in the old betamax/vhs-war: If you want to establish a new standard successfully, give away the licenses to others and help in every way that third parties develop product in that very standard. Even if they take a slice of your own business.

Am eyeing the new 35er currently but my wife may kick me.......
