looking for insight into the new Vocas MBS-100 (type N) 15mm LW support baseplate, I have not seen one in person. torn between this and the Shape offering. main use is for lens support of 70-200 2.8 or I may support the metabones adapter which is what I did with my FS700.

thank-you,

I have the Shape base plate and use a Nikon 70-200 as my interview lens but it has too be supported. I bought a little cross plate thst rides the rails with a 1/4-20 screw thst has an adjustable height. Mounts fast and offers the needed support.

Like the more compact form factor of the Vocas but not sure it work well with my tripod plate. Seems about perfect for Satchler's Touch 'n Go, but maybe too compact for use of their Side-Load, even when using the smaller Manfrotto plates. Hope I'm wrong because smaller is better for my needs.

Thank you for the feedback. I decided to go for the vocas mini base plate and the viewfinder rail. Just waiting on the shape handle grip extension and I think I'm pretty happy with my set up for the time being. There are a couple tweaks to be dealt with though like the suggested issue with the length of the tripod plate and an issue with my on hand lens support set up...

I had a Berkey system lens support from my FS700 set up and it works well with the lens collar on my 70-200 for sliding on and off the rails fairly rapidly, but there is an issue...the knob on the Berkey lens support projects below the tripod plate making the camera unstable when set down. The knob on the Berkey projects 27mm below the bottom of the rods and the tripod plate projects only 19mm below the bottom of the rods so some sort of lower profile lens support is something I am looking into.

Another issue is the length of my tripod plate, it is too long. I have a side load FSB 8 and the plate is 140mm long. It looks like any tripod plate from 70mm to 120mm could work depending on how your lens support piece is configured.

I don't know the weights between the shape mini baseplate and the vocas one but the vocas is lower profile due to not having an added rosette built in.

I am happy with my purchases and the direction my rig is going, light, simple and strong. Just need to get the tripod plate and lens support figured out.

I am a solo shooter primarily operating in the backcountry year round and most of the time a compact set up is key for me.

Manfrotto's 501PL series plates are compatible with Satchler's Side Load.

The 501PL Long is about the same length as the Side Load, but the 501PL is much shorter. Suggest you try one of these. And I'd love to see how it fits as I'm very interested the Vocas baseplate (& viewfinder support).

Where did you buy your Vocas accessories? Haven't seen them for sale in the USA & I'd rather purchase from Canada than the EU.

Thanks for the heads up on the 501PL plates, I will pick up on of those. I had a small plate (90mm long) that seems to fit OK for now off of my old gitzo 1380 head, works on the tripod with the mini base plate and allows for a fair amount of sliding adjustment. The only thing limiting for and aft movement is the lens support knob.

I purchased my vocas accessories in Vancouver from Fusion Cine, ask for Nathan the sales manager. Prices seemed ok even compared to BH (sometimes prices are drastically higher up here) and you have the strong $.

Thanks!

Noticed your Vocas EVF support is angled upwards a bit. Is it so long that it gets into the frame when the EF 16-35mm is SpeedBoosted? Like to pickup that accessory too, but don't like cranking my neck when shooting.

And if you don't mind, please post a photo, & your thoughts, on how the 501PL fits the Vocas.
