Hi All,

I am experiencing inconsistency with the firewire port on my Vista Home Prem. 32bit laptop. Sometimes it recognizes my DVX100b and my Pany GS-500, and sometimes it doesn't....even when using the same procedure of turning on the laptop, then the camera, then pluggiing in and opening the software. (Win MM, Vegas 8.0, and Premiere Pro 2.0) I checked the drivers and have gone through all the suggestions I've read in response to posts by others experiencing the same problem.

My question is: Have those of you with a 64bit version of Vista experienced any firewire issues?

I have decided to buy a custom build from http://www.pugetsystems.com and now I'm just deciding which 64bit version of Windows to go with. For now it's XP....with the knowledge that I can upgrade later should MicroSucks get their act together and make a 'Real' stable OS.

Thanks!

One might ask what the heck one is doing with Vista if they are involved with Digital Video to begin with.
I had a go,,,, simply put, pain in the freakin butt.
Have a look at Windows 7 when it arrives or go back to XP,,,, XP= Rock solid for audio and video.

BTW, IMHO if you don't think XP is stable then you have not got things set up right.
I almost never get problems with XP, I run multiple apps from Vegas, UVS, After Effects, and Photoshop and things are sweet with me.

Vista to put it plainly, wasn't made for us video types.

I could say the same about vista. I run 64 bit vista on my machine and edit and run multiple apps fine. My experience with vista has been nothing but stellar since I started running it 8 months ago.

The firewire problem I hear is a problem with SP2, but I don't have issues with mine. Sorry I couldn't help out more
