Greetings chaps, well i am new here, but it seems you all have a great community here, and hopefully this topic is in the appropriate thread.

Well I am visiting from the UK and will be in NYC for a week, so I intend to buy a PAL DVX100b while im there, use it for some filming I am to do there (but to edit in the UK and is for PAL)

So really lads, can you let me know of any places in NYC to recommend as retailers for the PAL dvx100b?

Also can you warn me of any retailers that are really dubious? (those oh u didnt buy accessories its on backorder kind of fiends...)

Regards
Lawrie

Call ahead, if you want a PAL model. I doubt they have them in stock. (Maybe they do, but...not likely).

But I'm sure they could get you one with enough lead time.

Cheers guys for the quick reply though I note on their website they don't stock the dvx100b PAL. I have however emailed them asking about the PAL version.

Also, I was wondering about the differences between the A and the B versions. There is almost a difference of 800$ in the sale price (more or less in other cases) between these 2 models, but for the life of me the differences seem quite minor.

The biggest being this issue with the sound the A sometimes suffers from, wouldnt be a prob since our sound is recorded seperately on DAT, so is there really any other differences that make the B the waaaay more obvious choice than picking up an A cheaper?

the biggest perk of the "b" to me is remote focus/iris control. i have a 100a and when using a jib, i have to use auto focus a lot, which i hate. this feature would be very handy for rack focusing without having to touch the cam as well....

the sound issue is really more of an annoyance than a problem. it's just that there is a very slight delay between outside sound and what comes out in the headphones. it's just a few milliseconds and doesn't really bother me....

BH Photo is the only store you should see for your video needs.

Good Luck and welcome to NYC!

B&H is like "toys'R'us for photo and videographers. Everytime I go there I hear christmas music in my head. With all the conveyor belts and traveling hanging baskets, it's like Santa's workshop and the store workers are the elves.... ok, Jewish elves, but you get the picture. Just make sure you set aside at least 2 to 3 hours when going there. There's so much to look at and play with. Have fun.

Yeah B&H is the place to get it, just expect the worlds WORST customer service, I actually am going there today to pick up a light, not looking foward to waiting for 45 min just to get someone to help me..

Gotta go to B&H. I've never bought anything big from there cuz the sales tax is a killer. But if you need to get it while you're in NY, that's the place to go.

You have to visit B&H just for the sheer experience of doing so. It is an amazing store.

But Abel is a fantastic dealer too. B&H and Abel are both top-notch dealers.

The B does not overscan either, so you see the ENTIRE frame in the LCD. Now that, is almost worth the $800 itself!...almost ;)
