Visible copyright on video - yes or no?

If someone paid you for it, like a commercial, then NO. If its for your own promotion/art work/self expression, then YES you may.

Sometimes in cases when one is in an exchange deal with a client, like, "will you do this for free, and you can place your credits on it" then its ok.

Thanks for the response, but what is your personal opinion? How do you handle it? I just took a look at one of your clips at Exposureroom (The Calyx Center). You didn´t set a visible copyright - why not?

Edit: Perhaps I didn´t express myself pretty well. So, lets assume you have made some nice private clips (not for commercial purposes) and you want to share it with the rest of the world on Vimeo, YT... or whatever. Would you put a visible copyright on it? And if not, why not?

The Calyx video is a commercial. I've been compensated for it, very well.
In fact, most of my work are either corporate , or commercials.
So technically, while I shot/edited/animated it, the copyright is not all mine, sometimes its shared between you and your client, sometimes the finished edit is solely the client's copyright.
Even posting it online required a client's permission.

If its my creative piece, its ok, like say the video I did on my honeymoon, I placed a credit in the end that I produced it, also placed a dedication too, to my wife of course.

In movies, they usually dedicate it to someone with the production that died while the movie was being made.

Now, you are specifically talking about a visible watermark, again, its a choice you make on your work, if you put a premium on your footage, where you plan to generate revenue from those scenes in the future, then by all means protect yourself.

However, if as an artist, your intentions are more altruistic, and you share a piece, where placing a watermark affects the flow of your story, and that you don't really care if people in the internet do as they please with your material, then you may do away with it. After all, theres really no fool proof way to keep your piece from being "captured" or "ripped" once it is online.

Remember, even painters sign their canvass. The choice is yours, as long as the work you post is wholey your own, copyright wise.

I agree. I wouldn't put a watermark on it unless I was selling it as stock footage or otherwise capitalizing on the video. For entertainment/art purposes, no need. In the video you posted, I barely noticed it. I doubt I would have seen it without you first dragging my attention to it.
