Hello
i have a vinten 20 head that I like alot apart for the fact that it can only title usably by about 50 degrees before it becomes unmanagable. Therefore I have been looking for a solution to extend the tilt angle. I have seen 90 degree tilt wedges that could be great except that they are designed for heavy cinema camera and therefore are not practical for my types of jobs.
Does any know of a more ENG / EFP solution so that I can do upto a 90 degree angle with a camera not more than 9 kgs?
Thank you

If you want to be really simple, look at the steel angles in the decks & patios section of the hardware store. Find a 90° that's maybe 2" wide and 3" on each leg. Get a tap & drill set for 3/8-16 and drill each leg; fasten a release plate to one leg and a quick release to the other. This will make you camera point 90° down (or up), but you can lessen the angle with whatever range your head has. I did the exact thing once to get an overhead shot, mounted a head to a 2x4 and clamped that to the ceiling trusses.

If you wanted less of an angle, you could probably bend the hardware to whatever you want.

Kessler may make something less heavy-duty that's adjustable, and Elinchrome's slider page shows something adjustable as well (though it's more DSLR sized). And then there's eBay, where chinese manufacturers sell a crazy array of rod support doo-dads and stuff, might get lucky there as well.

That last link looks really handy and well-designed and the price is decent.

I'd imagine you could find something from china if you hunt around for less $$, too, but… hit and miss.

I mounted a manfrotto tilt head

with a red epic mx . Not super stable but does the trick and is very light weight.

But whilst fiddling about the head, I twisted the balance knob far further than I thought was right and after lots of turns, the head loosened up until I was able to easily do a full 90 degrees and have the camera vertically pointing down.

I have always found the balance knob hard to turn on vintens.

Thanks for your help
