Vimeo introduces monetization options

It'll be interesting to see how many people will be able to actually break even with their pay-per-view option, considering it'll only be for pro members.

My vimeo numbers crush my youtube numbers. I have a 26 minute short film that has been watched 1500 times on Vimeo and about 200 times on youtube. Similar ratios for my other stuff.

Yeah, same here. For narratives, YouTube really doesn't have an attractive audience.

There is nothing in Vimeo's terms of use policy that prohibits rolling shutter tests.

I'm still laughing. My stomach...

Good going there Mark. Steven Dempsey started posting his DVX stuff on his pinelake films site. Recently he started adding his own commentary and also posting on vimeo such as his Artist's Eye. He started his new productions and is doing documentary work also posting bits on vimeo. Check out his Instrument Maker. Are you also getting your music created for you or are you just copying existing compostions?

Craig, yes I was an early follower of Steven D. He has a very good eye for video composition. A lot of thought goes into the music I use. The "description" of my videos will list the composer. Much of what I use can be found on jamendo, audionetwork and imcompetech. I also really like some of the early work of http://www.mattipaalanen.com/

Actually, I like the idea. I haven't used Vimeo a lot. (Mainly just go there when someone directs me to a video they've completed or want me to see). The generalized video site model was bound to get more narrow, either in terms of marketing strategies or content libraries. Personally I'm more for the latter. Give me more IPTV sites that focus on particular genres and subjects. IPTV obviously is inheritor to cable and broadcast and soon will be indistinguishable (ala Netflix's direction). That should make the monetization issues (poor content, over-saturated advertising) less bothersome. It's easier to take a little profiteering, if the trade-off is more programming.
